Sheerfield

Demographics

The population is around eight thousand, with a demographic consisting mostly of humans, halflings, dwarves, and elves, though there are a few gnomes and half-orcs here and there.

Government

The Governing system is under a lordship serving to the crown of Abadon. These people pay taxes to the ruling persons who in turn pay the crown for their land. Within these walls many companies make a stake for ownership constantly infighting with the government and rival companies for defacto control.

Defences

The city is surrounded by and stone walls and offers good fortifications against the river banks. trained warriors serve in the city's defense along with a number of Shield-Bearers, and a militia can be mustered in case of attack. The Tressaunt military academy makes up a well-trained army that can be called upon in times of need, it also makes a good fortification to protect the lord.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure of this city is decidedly Abadonian. their basic style of housing is pretty lackluster compared to most of the world.

History

Sheerfield is a lovely place built around a large fortress that has, for a long time now, been training exceptional soldiers. Its prime visage is lauded by many artists and poets I've come across, praising the area for its beautiful lakeside homesteads and variety of flowers and fauna. Many others come to visit for the delicious cuisine, to which I find myself frequenting the city for the usual special down at a tavern in the Narrow Song, if you do visit at any point you must try the Phoenix Casserole.

The City is ruled by Duke Jadeflower. He's the youngest of the Dukes and Duchesses lording over the lands under Queen Moira, being only 24, and has been described as quite the lady killer. I digress, he had power thrust upon him from a young age after his father died of an illness that plagued the town some years back, the roots of which were shrouded in a bit of mystery from most of the townsfolk. (I'll need to do a bit more digging on that...)

This illness had indeed claimed many a life when it tore through the town. Many apothecaries and doctors of other settlements came to help aid the situation, even the neighboring monks of Titans run, truly lovely people, had come to offer assistance in helping aid their allies' plight. It wasn't until a hero known only as The Scorned came to Sheerfield did things turn around. As per its written history, this Scorned Character was traveling southward in and upon seeing the city dwellers dealing with their plight sought to aid them in any way that they could. Most details have been lost to time, though some within the town still remember his deeds and had even met this hero in person. (perhaps some interviews are in order!)

In remembrance of their Deus Ex Machina, they hold a big festival every year and many come to partake in the pleasantries. This usually consists of a grand display from the town, resulting in feasts, parties, and Debauchery. Though the real driving force is the events known as the Trials of the Scorned hero. These events are usually a set of challenges that are similar to the trials the Hero went upon to save the settlement and most see this as a challenge worth traveling across the continent for. (ill have to list out the challenges in this tome, for completeness...)

Aside from the history of this town, for the most part, the city is in a state of harmony between the races known only to the Kingdom of Abadon. Its generous size and plentiful opportunity for work of all types bring in a diverse atmosphere of races that each contribute their part in the structure of the city, the governing body is fairly kind to its denizens.

Geography

The town consists of the two ends being split by The Garland Bay River. To the north lies the Bright Harbor and Farford, the outskirts of which lies Silverside. The south end caters to Ivy Harbor, The Narrow Song, and Smokebrook. I will need to flesh these areas out more. Hopefully, the upcoming Festival will give me an excuse to return and write down a bit more.
Kingshelm note: While this Town may seem basic at its core, its a lively area filled with many unique people and locations that may suit the common adventurer. its definitely worth a second look!
