Oodvir Dwelling

Design

An Ooodvir's traditional home is built along a river and is homely and cozy. These dwellings are also built underground for the most part alongside the river bed. They have designed their homes in such a way as to have two entrances. The first is built into the land and the second is connected to the river itself. Built from stones along the river side and then wood further in they prefer to have homes with many smaller rooms connected by winding tunnels. Although their houses are built underground Oodvir still desire their homes to feel sophisticated. Their tunnels are dug out and fortified with wooden beams and stone floors. They have also invented elaborate ventilation systems to allow for their deep tunnels and chambers to have clean air. Despite these modern furnishings it is very difficult for the larger races to visit these dwellings as usually the ceilings are only around four to five feet high. Very communal as a race their homes lack locks or doors. The only real door into their homes is the land entrance. All other rooms merely have a woven hanging. It is non uncommon for friends and family to drop by through the river door for a cup of tea or such.

Entries

The main entrance into a traditional Oodvir dwelling closely resembles what other races might call a cellar door. It is built into the side of a hill if available but sometimes it is simple a trapdoor into one of their main hallways. The other main entrance in all Oodvir houses is through a small opening near the river floor. A small room is built out of stone to create a pool and air pocket under the river proper. This allows the Oodvir family to enter in after a good swim. This is usually the main enterance for Oodvir as they prefer to swim into their homes.

History

The Oodvir are a very traditional folk and their houses have been built in much the same way since the time that they first began building structures. Little has changed over the millennia with regards to their homes but they have been modified in ways that allow for some newer technological advancements to be built in.
