Knights of Handras

History

The Knights of Handras were formed during the Age of Heroes by a cleric named Xarlexle Handras. Founded to act independantly of the Anthrosaur political systems they began to first as a military order of the main church but quickly became a power that rivaled some of the smaller lizardfolk kingdoms. Their mission in the beginning was to spread the light of Xbalangke the sun god. They acted as defenders of the common people and were often used as guards. Over time as warring between the lizardfolk nations lessened the knights became one of the only major military organizations left. While the larger kingdoms still have their own military the Knights of Handras have largely replaced their role as protectors within lizardfolk society and the political armies are now merely used for warring on other races.
Over time the religious nature of the knights has lessened and while they are still led by the church the fact that every eldest son from the major clans must join the knights has led to the upper echelons being primary the upper class of lizardfolk society. The higher ranks within the organization are not promoted due to their religious zeal or passion but rather due to their family ties.
