Candarion's Fall

Summary

Candarion, the leader of a mighty guild of warriors lived during the age of Heroes. These heroes were such the word had never seen and would not see again. But great strength leads to hubris and Candarion and his guild attempted to replace the gods themselves.   Though a mighty battle ensued, Candarion's forces were ultimately defeated. the gods punishment was swift as they locked themselves away, closing off the Holds. It is said they also cursed Candarion and his followers with the Soul Blight , a new punishment for a new age.

Though most of the events of Candarion's Fall did in fact take place much f the details are either grossly misrepresented or exaggerated.

The myth of Candarion and his guild are far reaching and tales of his battle can be heard or read about all over the world from Westreach to Hardover.

Variations & Mutation

Each region has adapted the story to fit their time and culture. in some Candarion is a tall dashing man of immense skill and strength while in other he is a soft spoken but intelligent lizardman sorcerer.

Cultural Reception

For the past thousand years the many churches have both deified and condemned Candarion and his guild. For much of the world they long for the time of great heroes and thus they look with awe to Candarion, but the rules of the gods is ever present teaching on the dangers of hubris.

In Literature

Many authors have written accounts of the history of Candarion's Fall. The most famous of these being Laurel Ventop's very detailed historical novel that tells the story of Candarion through the last weeks before the Fall.   Above all is the original story handed down first orally but then written down in the early 500's as an epic poem. The author is unknown although many have claimed to either be the author or know who the author is.
