Kronburg
The Fortress City
The mighty walls of Kronburg have stood since the fall of Anselm, a token of Asturian might. Before the Kingdom's schism, Kronburg was its fortress city, and Aquitaine its capital. Now, Kronburg has expanded beyond its initial role of defence: Sprawling neighbourhoods surround and engulf the city, its mighty stone-brick walls towering above even the highest church tower. At its top rests the Forlorn Keep, roost of the Blackwing Paragons, Griffon Knights of Asturias.
From the Forlorn Keep's High Tower Frederick the Just keeps an ever-watchful eye on his realm. Many rumours of magic and forbidden artefacts are told about the high tower and its inhabitants of war mages. But no rumours are as strong as the ones about the Old Imperial College of Spellcraft, the highest institution of wizardry far and wide. Nobles everywhere send their lesser sons with a gift of magic here, and even those with no gift are made to attend if the gold for its fees can be found. For the college teaches more than magic; it creates connections, contacts and the possibility of diplomacy among the upper class, and is highly selective and restrictive in its acceptance of students. It is no wonder that rumours and gossip of its true nature are abound, some of them true, not all of them false.
Beyond that, the city of Kronburg is well known for its martial colleges as well, producing fine generals with a sense for strategy. It also boasts a gigantic festival known as the Gates of Summer, hosted on the spring equinox and is an excuse for the city to break out caskets upon caskets of its famed Lothar beer.
