Elf

Considered to be the first mortals created by the gods, the elves of Entaria can trace their origin back all the way to the god Feradíl – the sons of whom where the progenitors of their kind. Because of their age, they are considered wise by most others, and their long lives of experience allow them to have a finer understanding of magic than most other races. They also believe themselves to be appointed guardians of the realm, having seen it grow over the many lives of human kings, rising and falling. Because of this, they consider themselves to be responsible for the shaping of the realm itself, and often interfere in massive changes to the realm.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Physically, most elves stand about the same height as humans, although their woodland kin are slightly shorter. They are of slender build, quick and agile, and have heightened senses of sight and hearing. Their ears are pointed, and their faces are slender and angled. Features such as skin tone, eye color, etc. vary depending on which sub-race they belong to.
  • High Elves – On Entaria, there are two distinct groups of high elf: the Gold elves and the Silver elves. As with all elves on Entaria, the high elves are descendants of the sons of Feradíl. The Gold elves come from Edaris, the eldest son, and reside over the “Golden Coast” on the far western shores. They are skilled in the ways of magic, and are skilled martial combatants. Silver elves are descended from the second eldest, Caendil, and rule over Silvercoast just to the south of their golden cousins’ homeland. While just as skilled in combat as Golden elves, Silver elves are far more stoic and militaristic in nature. Rather than delving into the arcane, Silver elves prefer to use their intelligence to advance military strategy and tactics. As a result they possess one of the most feared armies in Arinoth.
  • Wood Elves – Wood elves are descended from Tynriel, and reside over Stone Wood – the largest of the Elven Kingdoms – south of Heradain. Due to their more adventurous nature, Wood elves can be seen more regularly passing through foreign cities than any other kind of elf. This wanderlust has made them far more tolerant of other peoples, and are considered by many to be the most peaceful of the elven races. Make no mistake however, in a fight Wood elves are just as skilled as there high elf cousins. However, they do prefer to use their martial prowess as a form of meditation, and as a result many monasteries dedicated to martial arts have developed within Stone Wood.
  • Dark Elves – Often referred to as “drow” by the other elven societies to avoid any association with them, Dark elves are the descendants of the traitor son, Seraeus. They were cursed ages ago when Seraeus betrayed his youngest brother, Duíndil, and made him mortal. Since that time, they have remained in service to Fengorath and Ulderic, and dwell in the cavernous regions of the far north. After the second defeat of the Curses, and the subsequent destruction of their master, the drow have become aimless. Many still worship Fengorath, Selstine, and Caelith, but have become lost and dissatisfied with their current existence. This has even led a few to venture out into the world, and leave their old ways of life behind. They are still viewed with suspicion (and rightfully so), and as a result tend to keep to themselves and stay out of sight.

Growth Rate & Stages

Elves age at almost half the rate of humans - only considered to be adults by their late thirties - but appear to stop aging by the time they are in their fifties and sixties. Prior to the departure of the gods from the mortal realm, elves were considered ageless: capable of living for eternity without dying of old age, but were still subject to being mortally wounded in battle. They are still capable of living for millennia, but since the Divergence they subject to the same biological processes as the other races.
