Skimm

Skimm is a white, dusty substance with many uses in the culinary traditions of Endais. It is akin to a nutty corn starch or flour, and while not always used to bake loaves of bread in and of itself, it is almost always mixed with ricewheat flour in order to stretch out ricewheat yields. Skimm substrate is also an important ingredient in the production of vinegar as it functions as a mother.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Skimm is a white, dusty substance that floats on a slimy substrate, which itself floats on stagnant (or very slow moving) fossilwater. Patches of skimm grow outwards and not upwards, creating massive patches of white dusty material on the water.

Genetics and Reproduction

Skimm seems to reproduce like a fungus or bacterial colony, reproducing and expanding from any cut-off buds of it's substrate. It grows to optimal size within 1 month of careful cultivation, and begins fruiting after a total of 1 & 1/2 months.

Ecology and Habitats

While it isn't temperature sensitive, it is motion sensitive, growing and fruiting only on stagnant fossilwater.
