Burning of Autumnhall

Summary

The Burning of Autumnhall was a great massacre and razing of the capitol city of Palakyria in mid 89 HS. Not much is known about the event, such as the exact organization that would cause the event to take place. The event resulted in the death of the nascent religious growth that was happening all across Endais, although paradoxically not in the location where this occurred.
In 89 HS, a group of religious fanatics, in secret, summoned an army of angelic beings from heaven. The vengeful creatures would cause great misfortune and mental instability near average mortals, causing stresses in the capitol even before they revealed their faces, but when they did, it was a storm of claws and white-hot fire. Thousands died, and the angels fled to the four corners of the world, and many still believe they exist to this day. Near the capital, however, was a growing organization of vigilantes and gunslingers named the Dust Rangers. The Dust Rangers rode into town and evacuated the burning city and fighting off the angels with hot lead.

Spread

Due to being at the start of the widespread knowledge transfer that was the Historian's Summer, almost everyone on the planet learned of the event. There are little debates on what happened, just who did it. Many believe it was a failed false-flag operation, or that it was otherwise backed by nobility somehow, but due to it being ancient history, nobody can say for certain.

Cultural Reception

It resulted in the death of religious belief in almost every corner of the planet. Everyone outside Palakyria can agree that priesthood is a dangerous life, and that if you speak of them, the celestial forces that made the land will speak of you, and they despise you. In addition, the saviors of Autumnhall, also known as the newly formed Dust Rangers, were deemed a true force of good in the world, and are usually respected by many to this day.

In Art

The Burning of Autumnhall has caused quite a change in parlance and it has bled into all forms of art, usually to state the hopelessness of lost belief, fear of authority, and safety in atheism. On the other side of the coin, it has resulted in the rise of the romantization of the Dust Ranger, a group of individuals who may be somewhat well known nowadays, but early HS society was festooned and inundated with glorification and art of the Dust Rangers.
