Sebes ([IPA] sibz)

Sebes is a system of islands, mostly basaltic, formed around a fairly tame hotspot volcano. The area is occasionally shaken by tremors and subject to frequent storms. However the mountains of the islands shield the inner lagoon, making it a safe harbour for passing boats.

This natural boon as well as its centrality, made Sebes a perfect location for a trade hub. The harbour is used as a stopover by Esindran, Kajisgaardish and Ryuzentaji ships making the long haul to each other’s ports.

The islands are home to the genasi, the elemental race that thrive in the tectonically and climatologically tumultuous, yet harmonious environment. It is said that the primal forces of Creation rage here. They aren’t entirely wrong, as this is where Tiamat first set down her body to birth the first dragons. This small system is still a holy place for these people and some dragons will make pilgrimages there for official ceremonies. The most notable of these ceremonies are the funerals, as the bodies of ancient dragons are taken to the Dragon Catacombs, a jealousy guarded system of caves that serves that a mausoleum for certains factions of dragons.

These islands were a former Esindran colony. The port was expanded and several large trade companies set up their businesses here. Given the stormy, yet balmy oceanic climate, several resorts and vacation towns were built in and near the major cities, especially on the coast.
