Delunar (Délúnàr)

Delunar, the Elf Lands

Delunar, also known as the Elf Lands, is the westernmost region of the Einar continent. Delunar consists mostly of fertile lands and is currently predominantly inhabited by humans. Delunar consists of 5 states:   The kingdom of Nurmark Nurmark, founded by the first king Marek, is located in the frigid Northern lands around the Hyrst choke point. Nurmark is inhabited by the Nurmarkers, also known as Northerners, a rugged people of hardened warriors. The Nurmarkers share the northernmost lands with only the Dwarves of Loch Edin, and a few tribes of snow nomads in the furthest most regions.   The duchy of Belem Belem, founded by duke Belan the crafty, retains its name as a Duchy in between kingdoms. Located at the Dura river delta its land is highly fertile and also serves a strategic purpose. Because of this, Belem has been highly coveted by both the Kingdom of Nurmark and the Kingdom of Aelland.   The kingdom of Aelland Also known as the Heartlands, the kingdom of Aelland was founded by the first king Aella. Consisting of the central territories of Delunar, Aelland is known for its fertile farmland. Its capital is Buckland Keep, also known as the Red Keep, for an infamous legend in which the outer walls of the keep were painted red with the blood of prisoners of war after the first war with Belem. It is unknown how much of this history is propaganda or based in truth.   The state of Portis Portis lies in the southernmost region of Delunar and is a commerce-based state. Portis is in fact an alliance of cities, consisting of the city of Portis, Xyla, Kartos, Ektos, Pyrt and Wyton. The Portis-Kartos road is the main accessway to the unclaimed territories east, and the city of Portis is the main port of Delunar. Some believe Portis got its name from this fact. Others believe it is named after the founder of the new alliance of states, Toros the Crafty.   Endal Endal was founded in the ruins of Moranon by Eddun the Valiant. It is mostly isolated from the rest of Delunar, bordered by the Dunek Mountain range in the west and unclaimed wastelands in the south and east, and has retained a state of neutrality through most of the Delunarian wars after the great uprising.

History of Delunar

In the 1st age, Delunar belonged to the Elves. Through their mastery of the arcane, Elves dominated the other races in the 1st pan-Delunarian war. The Orcish tribes, unorganized but fierce warriors, were subjugated first. After they plead fealty, their power was recognized and they filled the ranks of the Elven armies. Next was man, living in the fertile lands and plains, they were dominated quickly in face of the Elven/Orcish armies. Man, the weakest of the races, was enslaved. The weak were forced to work the land, the stronger were forced into the vanguard of the Elven army. The dwarves, masters of metal and crafting, and technologically most advanced, were master of the mountains. Though fighting from a favourable ground, their leaders saw their machines of war slowly overrun by the bodies of man and realized defeat was inevitable. In their surrender they plead fealty to the elves and were allowed to live in reasonable freedom in exchange for a yearly tribute of gold and weapons. So it became, the Elves ruled over all and their dominion was complete. The Elven rule over man was cruel and without mercy. Establishing the Orcs as slavers, the blood of men irrigated the fields and on their bones they built their great houses of power: Aelthandir, Ult Aelien, Dunan Dal, Bylad Dal, Karthos, Porthos and mightiest of them all, the seat of Morannon, home to House Moran. In this society, house Moran ruled above all with iron fist. Below them, the great Elven houses, who ruled the lands and commanded the Orcish slavers. At the bottom was man, traded like meat, used as cattle. So ruled the Elves over Delunar for centuries.   683 years ago, calamity befell the house of Moran. In it's fall, the Elven nation of Delunar splintered. The greater Elven houses took up arms against each other, trying to lay claim to the continent. The conflict which followed was later named the 2nd pan-Delunarian war. The battles lasted for more than 10 years, claiming the lives of thousands, decimating the Elven armies and wasting the lands. The house of Byl, rulers over Bylad, were first to fall. Not long after, the situation turned dire for the house of Dun. In an act of desperation, the house of Dun, rulers of Dunan Dal, looked upon man. They armed their slaves and promised them power over the other houses. The other houses, now outnumbered by this new army of man, saw no other option than to also arm their slaves in face of extinction. Not long after, man rose up against their former masters, and lead by the five, reclaimed the lands for man.   When the fighting was over, and the Elves were driven from the plains and fields, the 2nd age began, the era of Man. The land was divided between the leaders of the revolution. Marek the mighty was awarded the Northern lands, establishing the kingdom of Nurmark. Belan the cunning was awarded the Dura delta, establishing the Duchy of Belem. Aella the brave was awarded the heartlands of Delunar, establishing the kingdom of Aelland. Toros the crafty, was awarded the southern lands and established the realm of state of Portis. And finally Eddun the valiant was awarded the former lands of Moran, establishing the country of Endal.   Slowly the land healed, and for a time all was good under the rule of man. Though man lives short, and mankind has an even shorter memory. With each new generation man remembered less of the plight that had united them before, and grew more and more apart. Without a ruler over all, as had been House Moran in the 1st age, it took not long before the first wars of men scorched the lands. And after a time, the 5 kingdoms of man entered a vicious cycle of war and peace, alliances and betrayal, scarring and healing.   The last of these wars concluded 4 years ago. The scars of this war still run deep in the lands. The lands lay ravaged, the people are ruined. Bandit clans, formed of groups of deserters, now feed on the land and its people, no army at the time equipped to stop them. These are difficult times, in which the rulers of the land cling desperately to their crumbling seats of power. Though adversity also brings great opportunity, for those who are bold enough to seize it.
