Dragonborn

The dragonborn are a growing and proud race. Matriarchal in their homeland, they form large family units that are their villages and cities. A "Queen" beneath which are her daughters(usually the eldest) and then their children and so forth. Much of their land is settled and there is some tension with their neighbors over their wish for more space. The Capital city Jorcyn, is the largest city in The Motherland by far. It contains 7-10 thousand Dragonborn and another few thousand or so merchants. Most other cities are between 6-8 hundred individuals.

Anatomy

This species follows the general bipedal base morphology. As a species related to dragons they are warm blooded even though they have scales. Their breath weapons are mostly magical and not purely biological

Biological Traits

There are three subtypes of Dragonborn. Chromatic, Metallic, and Gem. Approximately 45% are Chromatic, 50% are Metallic, and 5% are Gem. The type of Dragonborn is not determined by the type of the Parents.

Genetics and Reproduction

Reproduction is through the  form of Eggs. A fertilized female will lay a clutch of 3-8(avg 6) eggs, and with the help of her partner or family will keep them warm and safe through their incubation. The eggs incubate for approximately 3 yrs before hatching.  Hatchlings are roughly equivalent to a 2 year old human child. Temperature changes during incubaton can have drastic effects on the offsprings development and has been the source of several internal wars.

Growth Rate & Stages

In the egg stage growth is usually steady but slow by the time the egg is ready to hatch it is usually about 40lbs and about 20 inches tall. A hatchling grows at a comparable rate tot that of a human child though is not considered an adult until their mid 20's and will usually outlive a human by 2-3 times.

Social Structure

Matriarchal, the Dragonborn are lead by their Queen and her Daughters.  Social unrest is rare and a change in the "royal" family has only happened a few times, mostly as resources dwindled and their neighbors rebuffed their attempts to take more land. After the Civil war there was enough resources for the survivors and thus continued pushes into other lands was not needed.

Facial characteristics

Dragonborn do not grow hair, but do grown horns and softer keratin based structures that, at closest, resemble dreads or tight braids in haired species.

Originating in the Highland Steppes that make up The Motherland they have a notable representation in all the surrounding lands.

Fashionable and Wealthy. Gem are most beautiful then Metallic then Chromatic.

Courtship Ideals

Males from other cities are mot courted and usually have their choice of where to go. Common curtship gifts can include; sweets, large animals, furs, Smoking powder, etc.

Common Etiquette Rules

Dragonborn follow most general etiquette rules and have few of their own. If offered to see the eggs it is rude to say no and ruder still to not touch at least one, though this would be a rare occurrence for an outsider.

History

Appearing during the Age of Arcanum, no one knows the origins of the Species.  It is believed by some that the were created by the Dragon God Tiamat as more perfect worshipers.  Others believe that the Dragons themselves created them, as it's believed they did with Kobolds, a feat that has never been matched if true.  Freed from their enslavement by the fall of the Dragon Council and the imprisonment of Tiamat, the Dragonborn proceeded to colonize the lands formerly held by the Dragon Council. Being well suited for the range their society grew at an alarming rate and caused much tension with their neighbors. A cycle began in which they would grow to their borders and then try for more, if successful they would fill and eventually try for more again until they failed. A Queen who could not take more land would be doomed to eventually be overthrown. The Civil wars have been large and bloody, the last one wiping out all but 100 of the Dragonborn in The Motherland. There have been only 3 Civil wars over the course of the 4 thousand years they have governed themselves.
Before even the first time they filled their borders some individuals have been drawn to adventure. The adventure of Trade, or Exploration, or Combat, or something else that catches their fancy. Many find themselves needing more freedom and stimulation than their cities offer them and hurl themselves at the world to see what else there is. That said the number that leave does increase as resources dwindle and few that experience the freedom of the world find themselves wishing to return.
The Current Royal family, the Mums, have been in power for a little over 1500 yrs. Raising up from the Ashes of the old regime the current royal family has held power longer than any but the the first regime, due in part to their willingness to turn their people against each other and their cunningness in how they do so. The current Queen has tried twice to take more lands from their neighbors and has been unsuccessful both times, if something does not change for them soon another civil war is imminent.

Common Myths and Legends

Legend states that Tiamat created, or had the Dragonborn created as more perfect servants for herself. Clearly that didn't work out as she intended if true.  Legend states that the Dragonborn are the second Race created by the Dragons, the first being the Kobolds. Of course no Dragonborn accepts such ridiculousness.

Average Physique

A dragonborn stores its fat mostly in its tail, so most Dragonborn look more in shape than they necessarily are. They have the average range of strength and dexterity.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Dragonborn can be chromatic, metalic, or Gem based. Their scales will be all within a hue depending on the color they relate to. The color is not inherited and while their is not an equal chance for all colors, any egg could hatch into any of the colors.
