Martian Independent Networked Republic

Demographics

Though less than half a percent of the residents of the MINR community are human, reports show that the community is peaceful and happy with a standard of living similar to that within Tharsis, despite living much closer together. Censuses show an absolute devotion to Terraformism, with every single human member on record requesting the traditional Terraformist funeral. The Emergent network is similarly devoted to the effort, putting all resources not devoted to sustainment of the population towards maintaining the polar mirror arrays and trapping a new atomosphere over the pole.

Government

As is the case in all Networked Republics, the entirity of MINR's city government is managed and operated by Emergent representatives on it's network. The specifics of which Emergents fill which roles, and even which roles exist and what their responsibilites are in some cases, are too fluid and complex for humans to communicate verbally. When connected to the network directly via a Neural Interfacing Modem, a human can fully observe and understand the moving parts as they change, but even then the structure is hard to define.

The current desire to join the Aretian Protectorate by the vast majority of the Network and of the community has been hindered by the confederacy's memory of the massive human rights violations under the PNR. Unlike the PNR and some networked republics in the Belt, human rights are cherished in MINR, and are considered to be a higher priority even than The Work. The Arcology-style design of the city was designed primarily by humans, and perfected by a team of human and emergent designers, despite outside suspicion that the Network designed the community to maintain a human population like cattle.

Residents of this community have access to all of their typical needs, but the Network insists that pregnant women seek prenatal care and early child development care outside of the main structure, citing a desire for the mother to have fewer stress factors and for the child to develop a love of Mars. MINR's Maternal Outpost is the only place on Mars that offers a controversial medical procedure that has an Emergent endure the pain and perform the birthing process while the mother observes via sensors in the room and returns to hold the child once birth is complete.

Infrastructure

The central complex of MINR is a large Arcology that contains 85% of the human population. The remaining 15% are spread across an Agricultural Area designed to sustain the current population and prepare for a one percent growth-rate, which that area maintains via it's Maternal Sector, where pregnant women and new mothers prepare for and recover from birth in a less stressful enviroment, and where children are educated in grade school for the first 12 years of their life before entering Public Training at the Arcology, which exposes them to many different fields and prepares them for Private Training in their job field. Parents have their children live with them, shuttling to grade school in the Agricultural Area in the morning and home in the evening, until they enter Public Training, when they recieve their own housing in the same neighborhood as their parents. Once the child enters Private Training at 17, they are considered an adult and are transferred to housing in the area of the Arcology where they work, or in the Agricultural Area.

Transportation to and from the Arcology is done via high speed magnetic rail, while transportation within the arcology is ususally done on foot, with ladderwells connecting different levels. There is no handicap accessible area within the Arcology itself, though the Retirement section of the Agricultural Area does have much in the way of ramps, elevators, and even short distance trolleys for movement within the area. There is a single launch station at the outer edge of the Agricultural area that has regular automated flights to the polar mirrors and their maintenance station.
