Elysium, the digital universe

Sort of like The Matrix, but not necessarily made to simulate the real world and all its denizens are aware of its nature. TAll of humanity is connected to Elysium all their lives, and are granted godlike powers over the laws of their universe. They can fly, change shape at will, conjure up anything they can imagine and create, all while their minds are housed in the greatest and most powerful supercomputer system ever built.
Now that a great secret has been revealed, the entire existence of Elysium is at stake due to the mad dash to get the secret back under wraps again, and the consequences resulting from sloppy and single minded work of the secret keepers.
There do exist hackers that can possibly save some of humanity from total collapse if such a thing should happen, but even they don't know what the future holds, and are scrambling like everyone else to stay ahead of the rapidly shifting world that's beginning to break down. Besides, it isn't known if total collapse will indeed be the result of this calamity. Rumors have begun to spread about everyone's mind being erased of the knowledge via some secret memory control technology, some say the entire thing is a means to some other unknown end, some think this is the beginning of the apocalypse and that the entire physical universe back in the "real world" will soon end.
The role of the secret is unclear. The secret concerns another alien race called The Generated, they are AI beings that have been disguised as humans for untold centuries, and are believed by almost everyone to be a myth. But now, they're confirmed to be real. What will they do in responce? try to hide themselves again? Show their true abilities and try to take control of Elysium? No one knows but many speculate about what they might do, and almost all fear them now.
Whatever the future holds and whatever comes of this secret being revealed, one thing is for sure, this is the beginning of an age of chaos and rapid change.
