Amara Valleyborn's mother
An elf who fell in love with a human hunter she left to follow her heart and abandonded her previous life.
Amara never showed her talent for magic but instead followed her father in the outdoors life. Valhalla has dabbled a bit to keep her hand in but there was little need for her specialization here in a small town.
She was researcher that specialized in other race's magics. She was brought in to figure out how other nations mages worked and thought. Long before Joe entered her life she was involved in the captue of an experimental Kanalon ship. The Obsidian of the Calm Sea has been a mjor monopoly for the Kingdom of Conia and Felmeth was very interested in figuring out how to break that monopoly.
The Kanalon shipwrights and mages had created a new class of ship. This ship threatened to give Conia absolute economic control of hte seas.
Not only does this ship have the normal protection of and Obsidian Figure but they had managed to imbue it with some autonomy. The ship is able to sail itself to a limited degree. Reducing the need for sailors and reducing the space wasted for them would greatly increase profits.

This was all research and academic until they lost control of the ship. A pirate was able to gain control of the ship and started a campaign of terror all around Elysiath. The Lords of Felmeth decided that direct action must be taken. They formed a small armada to hunt and destroy or capture this ship.
After a long and bloody hunt the Elvish armada finally cornered the ship not far from the Horn. Valhalla was instrumental in tracking the ship through it's unique magic. She had also designed a device to stop and trap the ship. During the final boarding action the Device was deployed and the ship was trapped in a magic bottle.

However when the remants of the armada returned to Felmeth the Lords took to bickering over the prize and what to do next. Over the years the bottle was lost in beauracy and the sacrifices of the sailors of the Aramada forgotten. This disilluisionment on top of other issues is what pushed Valhalla to retreat to Linkoto and eventually meet Joe.
When Amara left for home she passed on her protective amulet. This amulet is Valhalla's key to her magic devices.

When Valhalla's Device was activated she realized that the Ship wasn't a mindless construct but that there was a mind trapped in there. She had, however unwittingly, enslaved another person. This is what broke her.
