King's Island

the island in the centre of the Elven Isles. It is the Island which used to be the seat of power. The souther part is covered in lush rainforest, the norther half has the largest and most fertile fields in the archipelligo. This is where the King lived with his court, and it was sort of the engine which kept the Archipelligo going. There are old times who tell the stories they heard from their parents of those days, where there was timber enough and food enough for all, and when magic was not outlawed.
the last Elvin King decided to outlaw magic after losing his daughter to a spell gone wrong, and made it a capital offence to use magic in the islands. Shortly after this, everyone on the Island was found dead, aside from the families of six of the kings barons who lived on the next largest Island, the Golden Island. These six families decided not to replace the king, but to form their own oligarchy. There seems to be a lot of grasping for power, but so far this government is working-ish.
The Island is now used only as a prison camp, with the prisoners mining the gold and silver from the mountain on the Island. Recently the monthly shipment of new food and prisoners showed up, but when they arrived there were only bodies on the ground. And it smelled "like fire and brimstone."
There is a growing frustration with living on so little when there is such a fertile Island nearby, but the plagues are preventing fear of the island from fading. Also they are propagating suspicion against magic. If the magic users want widespread acceptance of magic they have to know what happened on that island, if they can prove it was not magic they will have a much easier time of getting it legalized.
