Fairgrounds Mall
The new Fairgrounds Mall being built on the site of the old fairgrounds is the talk of the town, for various reasons. The kids are excited to finally be getting a place to hang out and and spend their allowance, some of the residents are excited by the options a mall would afford the small town. Others like the local Labour Union, are frustrated by the developer, Oppenheimer Developments', decision to bring in construction workers from out of town rather than hiring locally (despite Oppenheimer and his family being residents of Elk Lake himself).
There are strange rumours about the construction site and the way it's sealed up tight and no one ever stays past sundown.
Purpose / Function
Originally the site of the Elk Woods fair and other travelling shows and amusements. Construction of new Mall development
Also hotspot of paranormal energy thanks to a local coven binding all the local supernatural creatures there at the behest of the Elk Club in the mid-1600s.
History
Until the 17th century various paranormal creatures lived alongside the townspeople of Elk Woods and its surrounding area. The Elk Club took it upon themselves to save people from these "monsters" and enlisted the help of a local coven. They were unable to completely eliminate the creatures, but did manage to bind and trap them. And, because they were a group of powerful white men, they wasted no time in trying and burning the witches who helped them.
