Mursa

Mursa, the hidden town. Home of wealth and danger. Beneath the forest floor it lies, hidden from the eyes of Vorixonarak (usually called Vorix), the dragon who rules this place. But his kobolds scour the forest for foes and treasure, and surely the miracle of Mursa’s safety cannot last. Yet whilst they still hide, they will thrive. For great veils of ore and gem lie buried beneath the surface, riches beyond your wildest dreams.

Demographics

A largely dwarven town, but with skilled specialists of all races amongst its ranks. A heavy emphasis upon mining, but with large groups focussed on feeding the miners, shipping ores and goods, crafting and defending/hiding the town

Defences

The entire town is hidden underground, with carefully concealed channels for air and light. The harbour front can be collapsed by activating runic sequences on certain pillars, which there are always guards on hand to do. All other entrances are to small for a dragon to enter, and can be sufficiently blocked off/defended should the kobolds try and invade. In such an event, there are several weeks' food stores in depots, and teleportation circles for evacuation.

Industry & Trade

The magical ores found below the town can help forge numerous magical items. The most useful one of these, from the citizens' perspectives is the Glow-Stone, a carved stone the size of a chest, with a rune of the right alloy on its base, that sheds bright light for 30 feet, and dim light for a further 30 feet.

Guilds and Factions

There is an Embassy of the Free Kobold Order in the city. The Overwatchers, who make sure those working above the town are protected and hidden, along with stopping any kobold patrols from getting too close, mapping the surrounding area and so on, live amongst the townsfolk unlike the barracked guardsmen. They have a small centre of operations near the heart of the town. The Captain of the Guard , the Head of the Council and the Heads of the Miners', Smiths', Growers' and Woodsmen's Guilds all collaborate in the ruling council with occasional input from the Embassy and the Overwatchers, who are separate from the authority of the Captain of the Guard. The town has a formal constitution, written when it was founded and based on general dwarven law.

Geography

The town is underground, an impressive feet of engineering, beneath the forest the dwarves call the Ludun. The town is on the edge of the territory of a blue dragon, Istalmak, that makes its lair on a nearby mountain. This is, indeed, why the town is below the ground, for hiding is the only way to harvest the natural riches-discovered centuries ago by a dwarven explorer whose work was lost, before a chance mention in a halfling almanac led to its rediscovery. Near the mouth of the river as it is, the produce of the mines can be shipped out of Ludun with reasonable ease. Recently, a series of highly complicated covert operation have been aimed at encouraging a red dragon, who lairs further inland, to assault Istalmak-thus freeing Mursa from the fear of discovery.

Natural Resources

This town was entirely founded on the basis of exploiting the incredibly rich veins of ore that can be found here. Not only is there an abundance of iron, and some silver, but various mystically potent ores can be found beneath the soil, such as Darerreig. Within a dense forest and close to the sea, fish and wood are easy to come by.
