Tristan Copernicus Aequimanus

Tristan Copernicus is a travelling knight from the Duchy of Ober. His cognomen, Aequimanus, means "ambidextrous". He is also a resident of Staema Alera.

Physical Description

Apparel & Accessories

When not in combat, Tristan wears brown trousers and a dark blue leather jerkin, fastened with silver buttons. In battle, Tristan wears steel plate armour with a navy-blue gambeson and surcoat, as is customary for Travelling Knights. He wears a sallet helmet when it is deemed necessary but often refrains from putting it on to preserve visibility, and rarer still puts down the visor.

Specialized Equipment

Tristan's signature weapons are an arming sword and parrying dagger, which he excels at due to his ambidexterity. His weapons are made of spring steel, and he keeps them deadly sharp, and strengthened by way of tempering in mercury.

Personal history

Tristan Copernicus was born on the 43rd of the Month of Edreni, 1569 to a small lord in the south of Ober, and was the third child of the family. As was common for people of his social class in Ober, he enlisted in the Oberan army at the age of sixteen and became a knight. More specifically, he signed up for the Order of Hawthorne, an up-and-coming military group from the area Tristan's father had fought in. His skill in combat and tactical mind quickly took him through the ranks until he was selected by Duke Lucien Ober to join the Oberan Travelling Order, a group of knights who worked independently, travelling between parts of Ober to put down rebellions, fight crime, and carry messages. It was around this point that he earned the nickname "Aequimanus".
At twenty-eight, he met Exe Darwin on a trip to western Thorn, and got on well with him. He extended his trip by four months and took a trip to Staema Alera, the home of Exe, among others.

Tristan's formidable speed and skill in combat have given him fame within the Oberan military, and he remains an incredibly well-respected figure, even to his superiors.

Motivation

Tristan's reason for fighting for Ober comes largely from a desire to bring retribution - punish those who have hurt others. This was oe of the reasons that the Travelling Knights - who deal largely with law enforcement - were so appealing to him as opposed to fighting against soldiers of other countries.
