Syndalan Orcs

Syndalan Orcs are the group of Orcs dominant in Syndal. They are named not after the place they are present in, but because they live in the country of the same name (as opposed to True Orcs. who live outside of the country).   Syndalan Orcs, just as True Orcs, are very warlike. However, the two cultures handle this in a completely different way. While True Orcs value one-on-one combat and honour a great deal more, Syndalan Orcs have stronger beliefs in patriotism, something that True Orcs give little value to. They treat war far more like other nations across the ocean, fighting in rank and line rather than as individual warriors.

Naming Traditions

Masculine names

Baul

Family names

Syndalan Orcish family names have their roots in the War Clans of the original Orcs of Tekam. They have, however, been largely distanced from this in an attempt to erase the idea of War Clans as a geopolitical unit.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The language spoken by Syndalans is Kabel, something shared with True Orcs (although the dialects are different beyond recognition).

Art & Architecture

Syndalan architecture is quite simplistic, with houses usually built from stone, as wood is hard to come by. Roofs are often made from slate.

Coming of Age Rites

With coming of age, men are expected to join the Syndalan military. In recent years, this has been woven into Syndalan law, as conscription has been introduced.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Cremation is the most common practise for funerals, with the ashes being kept at home or, if the dead is a soldier, being kept in catacombs by the military.

Historical figures

By far the most respected, feared, and revered figure in the history of Syndalan Orcs is Baul Carnago, who single-handedly brought together the orcish tribes to form the nation of Syndal.
