The Two Sisters

Land of the Twin Covens

The Two Sisters are two island continents located in the northernmost latitudes of Eldgaia. Both islands are governed by organizations that only loosely tie together the people of the island in the form of the twin covens. The Twin Covens are made up of the eldest witches of their respective island. This style of governing has been passed on from generation to generation of witches for nearly a thousand years.    The Two Sisters are not widely populated compared to the other continents of Eldgaia and most of the landscape is still claimed by nature save for the occasional temple or other esoteric architecture. The Two sisters collectively only have 3 significant urban areas, with the rest of the population living in smaller towns or settlements. Most of the settlements are self governing, with the Twin Covens only really being called upon in times of crisis.    The Two Sisters are perhaps the most racially diverse Eldgaian continents. Humans are not the majority species on the Two Sisters with its population being comprised of a plethora of different races, many of which you can find nowhere else in Eldgaia. Most of the population of the Twin Sisters are also practitioners of witchcraft or some other form of magic, which made the Two Sisters a major target of the Lucacians during the bleeding of Eldgaia.    During the bleeding, the inhabitants of the Two Sisters fought back with surprising ferocity. Once expected to be as easy win for the Lucacians, the Northern Front, as it became known, became a multi hundred year long battle and stalemate. Initially the war moved in favor of the Lucacians, but in their desperation the witches of the Twin Covens tapped into previously forbidden dark magic practices. Necromancy and even summoning Demons and other extra planer entities were used in order to push back the Lucacian armies. The coastal forests where the majority of the fighting took place were left tainted by these dark practices.    The seemingly endless stalemate in the Northern Front helped stir malcontent among the Lucacian citizens, many of whom increasingly saw the Northern Front as pointless and a lost cause. Exhaustion from the Northern Front may have also been what contributed to Lucacia's resounding defeat against Icidor later in the war.    Residents of the Twin Sisters harbor a prejudice against Lucacians to this day, most of whom are banned from stepping foot on their continent. Rumors have also spread of a fabled "curse against Lucacia" in which a particularly powerful witch was said to have cursed the continent to be unstable for all time. While this is just a rumor, many magicians see this as the reason of Lucacia's current political landscape.
