Mors Arboribus - Death By Trees

Mors Arboribus is a brutal form of execution that is most commonly employed by The Church of the Neon God to those they deem as heretics. Tree is made of flesh and bones from the assimilated bodies of its victims

Execution

To start the ritualistic execution, the High Priest of The Church of the Neon God leads a procession of thirteen acolytes, in the middle of which walks the condemned. After arriving at Lignum Mortis, an ancient Bloodwood, the victim is stripped of their clothes and slathered in a magical oil which helps keep them alive during the entire process.

Once this has been accomplished, a hole deep enough for the person to stand in is dug and the condemned is forced in. They are then buried up to their neck, and the awakening of Lignum Mortis begins. This takes exactly one hour and ten minutes, at the end of which Lignum Mortis will let out a loud bellow, before navigating its roots to the buried victim. It will use its roots to pierce through the body of the victim, before slowly feeding off them for several weeks. During that entire time, the victim is awake and alive, feeling every root tendril moving through their bodies, slowly devouring them from the inside out.

Once the tree has finished its feast, the skeleton is removed from the hole and hung from the branches of Lignum Mortis as a warning to all those who pass by.
