Inciting Incident

1 year ago from the start of the campaign, groups of people on both sides of the border between Draxium and the Blessed Kingdom of Light made their way to each other in the hopes of easing tensions between the two nations. From the Blessed Kingdom of Light the envoys consisted of five human commoners, two halfling traders, and a gnome idealist. From Draxium the envoys consisted of two half-elves, two tieflings, and another gnome. While the groups tried to be stealthy, the Dragon King Thunder learned of this meeting. As both groups approached the border and before they could even speak to each other, Thunder swooped down from the sky, raining lightning and death upon the groups. Only one of the halfling traders survived the encounter to deliver the news to the capital city of the Blessed Kingdom of Light.
This incident has only served to fuel the distrust and hatred of the humans toward the world of magic.

Themes

The border between the Blessed Kingdom and Draxium is not only a physical scar across the landscape, but there are deep emotional and psychological scars as well tied to the loss of life and more that resulted from the continent being split so completely in half.
