Pirel

Pirel is one of the seven recognized Kingdoms of Life, containing the races of Elysia most similar to the Skyborn, from whose perspective the Kingdoms of Life were founded. Pirel contains the most similar characters to human beings in Elae Meltaea.   As a word in casual discourse, pirel translates as either "peer" or "person" depending on the context and the speaker's view of races not sorted into the kingdom proper (chiefly Ferel and Bestis). The adjectival form qualifying one as a pirel would be pireleste in Lin di Thaer, but improvised as "pirelic" in English Playerese. It can be used as a rough equivalent both of "humanoid" and "humane". Pirel and its other forms are capitalized as proper nouns only in reference to the Kingdom of Life, and not in general use.

Skyborn

The Skyborn (LdT Thaerelrin "those of the sky") are the most prestiged and, in history, arrogant of the Pirelic races. They reside chiefly in lavish kingdoms among the Seven Skies - seven major floating islands over the oceans and more rarely lands of Elysia - and are subsequently often at odds with harpies and other high-altitude creatures, though they can be found the world over. Although they are not inherently of dragon blood, Skyborn resemble them the most closely of the Pirelic races, and individuals are not excluded from draaknate status.

Without magic, most Skyborn are only able to glide briefly with their wings, which remain chiefly for the purposes of vanity. Skyborn with small wings are often teased, as in the case of Laethe Flirel.

Known races of Skyborn include:
  • Solaerans from the respective isle of Solaer; their avian features and bright colorations lead some to mockingly call them parrots
  • [unnamed race], a semi-tribal people from the Jade Isles
  • [unnamed] from Shirin, the Land of Eternal Twilight
  • [unnamed] from somewhere or another; includes Nihila

Earthbound

The Earthbound (LdT Terelrin "those of the earth") are the most common of the common folk, and form the bulk of civilizations around the mainlands of Elysia. They are also the most varied, as from an Earthly perspective they can resemble rabbits, squirrels, dogs, skunks, weasels, birds, etc.

No one is certain how closely related each of the Earthbound races are to the Skyborn. It is presumed that when the first Pirelrin came into being and their population grew too large, they chased one another off of whichever isle, leading to the Skyborn taking all Seven Skies and the Earthbound being cast to the ground below. This persistent legend is the source of their Playerese names.

Known races of Earthbound include:
  • The Estherians, a joyful and people who wear their hearts on their sleeves and solve every problem with food
  • The Freesians, who wish to see the entire world joined in friendship
  • The Five Free Peoples, a set of tribal races whose uniting trait is a sense of harmony with nature and the environment
    • The Luskie, who build floating cities over lakes and pride themselves on their spearfishing
    • The Lykaia, who see the world in terms of hunters and prey
    • The Terani, nomadic traders, artists, and friends
    • The Tyrvari, druids able to make homes in almost any biome on the planet
    • The fifth one we don't have yet but there should be a fifth one just because
  • Other bozos

Seabathed

The Seabathed (LdT [...] "those of the sea") are the rarest of the Pirelic races. Though they walk on two legs like everyone else, their bodies are hairless below their heads, and they look more fish-like than anything. Contrary to the name, Seabathed prefer fresh water, though they are air-breathers and depending on specific race may tolerate saltier water as well.

Scholars suspect that when the Earthbound were cast down, they eventually in turn cast the most unfortunate of their number out from the most lush fields and plains, creating the Seabathed from those who made homes in lakes and rivers. The primary hole in this story is the existence of the Luskie people, who live close to or over water yet are considered Earthbound due to their fine coats of fur.

Known races of Seabathed include:
  • The Naiads
Genetic Descendants
Lifespan
70~100 years
Average Height
Male: ~5'9" (~175cm)
Female: ~5'5" (~162cm)
