KKO Session 5: Paper Streams

General Summary

9/4/875

• It’s a couple days before the Paper Dragon ship arrives
• Tevlin calls party to his room, says they’re getting a new party member
• She’s a wood elf druid named Nyana, and she has a bone to pick with the Paper Dragons
• She’s seen some shit
• So in the couple days before the shipment the party gets more intel on shipment
• Bucephalus does some snooping around finds some info about a relic called the Ream
• It’s a powerful object crafted by drow wizards in southern Pescat
• Later that night the party all gets drinks together to discuss plan
• Nyana’s a little reluctant to share past, but everybody’s friendly
• They notice Hokan and Adam, the orc and half-elf from last week
• They convince the two of them to have some drinks with the party, share intel
• Reluctantly, Hokan explains how the Ream is a game-changing weapon
• It’s rare, it’s powerful, and Saoirse is coming to oversee its arrival
• On the day of the arrival Bucephalus casts amulet of Rexfur to sneak onbaord
• Guppy gets him to cargo ship with a boat made out of water
• Bucephalus does some investigating, finds a relic that’s most likely the Ream
• Does some more searching, but he can’t find key!
• Suddenly, the boat takes a severe lurch and he takes a bit of damage
• There’s a fight happening on the pier
• Meanwhile Balasar and Nyana sneak onto pier’s edge where ship’s arriving
• Balasar puts on the uniform he stole from Hokan, pretends to be a sailor
• He does a bad job of it, one sailor introduces him to Saoirse
• Saoirse eyes him over, offers him more lucrative job with Paper Dragons
• Balasar plays dumb, is about to get his throat cut
• That’s when Nyana casts Thunderwave
• Boss Fight: Saoirse and the Paper Dragon crew
• Guppy casts power Seevo-fueled storm, floods pier and buffets ship
• Bucephalus has to take the jump into the sea and make it to pier
• Nyana gets stabbed by Saoirse’s rapier, but she hits back with thorn whip
• Buchephalus does good job hitting dockhands with his crossbow and vicious mockery
• Balasar KO’s Saoirse with the blunt end of his battleaxe
• But just before that, she pulls Ream from Bucephalus’ pack
• She pulls the key from coat pocket, unlocks box
• Hundreds of shimmery and colorful pages go flying into air
• Some fall to ground, but most of them disappear/vanish
• So the party hurriedly jumps into Saoirse’s carriage to escape from pier
• It falls apart a few blocks later thanks to Bucephalus' curse from the Ageless One
• Saoirse’s battered, but Nyana keeps her stabilized (and tied up)
• They have to hike a couple miles up to Tevlin’s place
• That night Tevlin gets filled in on their latest round of shenanigans
• For once, he's mildly impressed that they didn’t kill everybody
• Him and Nyana investigate paper from the Ream
• The pages are full of conjuration/evocation magic
• Very advanced stuff
• Saoirse trolls them, says Judith hasn’t been on the level with them
• The tribe she works for, Oda, is ruthlessly ambitious and wants to control all of the Northern Territories
• Nyana et al decide Judith is lesser of two evils
• The next day the party heads downtown to torment Hokan and Adam some more
• They know they’re dead men walking for spilling so much tea, so it’s whatever
• Hokan eyes over some of the Ream paper, shows off its true power
• He folds sheet into a shuriken, it becomes sharp and weighty
• He folds an origami rabbit, it grows into weight and size of rabbit
• Rest of party’s very impressed, Nyana adopts the rabbit
• They invite Hokan and Adam to join their group and escape Paper Dragons
