The Maker

The Maker (also referred to as "The Maker of the World") is the deity worshipped by the Chantry. He is referred to as a male, and the prophetess Justinia The First , who inspired the foundation of the Chantry, is considered to be his chosen. While the Chantry believes that the Maker is all-powerful and created all things, they also believe that He has turned away from them. The Chantry believes this to be because of the faults of His creations. He will not answer prayers, grant wishes or do anything of the sort until humanity proves itself worthy of His attention again.

History

It is said that long ago, the Maker created the spirits as his first children, made in His own image. However, the Maker turned away from them, because while the spirits could alter their world at will, they lacked soul and individuality, only imitating what they saw. Dissatisfied with the result, the Maker left them behind, creating the world of Eidos next and its inhabitants. The children that populated this new realm had the spark of the divine within them, each of them being unique. He separated it from the first world by putting a veil in between them, not realizing that His first children would be able to observe His new ones.

Then the Original Sin was committed: the jealous spirits who would become the Demons and the Old Gods whispered to the men of the new world from across the Veil, and turned them to the worship of themselves in exchange for magic. While the demons remained behind the Veil, the Old Gods managed to convince the mortals to allow them into their world where they became even more deformed. Seeing this, The Maker imprisoned the Old Gods deep underground and banished the Demons from his side sending them deep within the dark abyss, He then turned away from mortal-kind as He despaired, for His first children had betrayed Him and His second children created sin.
Even so, the Demons and Old Gods continued to whisper in the ears of mortals, giving them more and more power while seeding discord and hatred amongst them, all culminating in the Rune War where new gate-ways were opened and the world sundered. The Maker, in his mercy, allowed the mortals a second chance, choosing a champion in Justinia The First who saved the world from total annihilation. She was then tasked with bringing everyone together under the Chant of Light, as only then would the Maker forgive his children and return to them.

Holy Books & Codes

"There was no word
For heaven or for earth, for sea or sky.
All that existed was silence.
Then the Voice of the Maker rang out,
The first Word,
And His Word became all that might be:
Dream and idea, hope and fear,
Endless possibilities.
And from it made his firstborn.
And he said to them:
In My image I forge you,
To you I give dominion
Over all that exists.
By your will
May all things be done."
-The Chant of Light

Wow... a god who turns away from his first creation, until the first one steps up their game, only to have their second creation betray them? That is a cool god story!
