The Thaumacracy

So great is the power of mages over the rest of the world that decades ago the mightiest among them banded together to form the “pinnacle of society,” known as the Thaumacracy. This pinnacle is equal parts government and nation, and both aspects are referred to by the same name. The government of the Thaumacracy, a council of the wisest and most powerful spellcasters, rule from the gleaming spire at the center of the Thaumacracy’s city-state.   From their exalted city, the mages set out to bring the mundane world into their divine dominion, marking their territory with arcane implements known as “magelight” and planting themselves into other civilizations as commanders and rulers. This process is met with varying amounts of resistance, but most understand that it is better to be begrudgingly occupied than marked as an enemy of the Thaumacracy.

Structure

Within the Thaumacracy, mages stand above all others. Their power is self-evident, and the symbol of their rank is impossible to replicate. That said, mages not registered as operatives of the Thaumacracy are treated with distrust and are given respect only out of fear of their abilities, rather than from social standing.   All decisions within the Thaumacracy are made by a group of powerful mages known as the Thaumacratic Council. The council itself is comprised of 11 of the most well-known and well-regarded mages, as elected by all people within the Thaumacracy city-state, but all mages recognized by the Thaumacracy are allowed to present ideas and concerns and be taken seriously.

Public Agenda

The Thaumacracy strives to bring the rest of the world under its rule and protection. All that are brought into the Thaumacracy’s light are brought into a more civilized and peaceful world.
