Pendulos

God of Time

One of the most obscure Gods to exist is Pendulos, the God of time. Pendulos differs from the vast majority of other Gods as he was rarely present on Ehldaron during the ancient times, when all other Gods did walk the world. Because of this he never held a region nor was he involved in either of the God Wars.     Beliefs and purpose   The reason as to why Pendulos was rarerly physically present is because, as the God of Time, he is a being able to move freely through past, present and future. For Pendulos time is not linear, but rather something he can completely see, understand, and manipulate. This also allows the God of Time to know everything that happened in the past, everything that is happening in the present, and see everything that will happen in the future.   Pendulos’ main responsibility is to ensure the flowing of time. In essence, this means that Pendulos’ existence is necessary for life on Ehldaron to exist, as without time, there can be nothing. Something the followers of Pendulos, the “Guardians of Time”, understand all too well.   This makes the God of Time extremely powerful and knowledgeable. However, Pendulos is not known to share any of that knowledge. To Him, everything is a story with a beginning, middle, and an end. These stories need to be played out, and even the God of Time cannot interrupt or change them, unless of course something threatens the flow of time itself.   This does not mean that time is set however, and that nothing could ever be changed. The tomes of Pendulos claim the opposite in fact, time is malleable and can constantly change. But that change may not come from the God of Time or its followers unless it directly threatens to destroy time itself. Everything else that happens that has an effect on the way things are supposed to go, is simply how the story must be played, for better or for worse.     Followers   The sole purpose of the Guardians of Time is to protect both the flow of time and the God of Time Himself. Most nations will have Guardians of Time spread out over the entire region, often working closely with Clerics (many of the Guardians of Time are clerics themselves). While the Guardians of Time are often admired and held in high regard, they are also considered stubborn and pretentious. Many go to the Guardians of Time with questions about both future and past, asking them to use their divine powers to help them, but every time the answer will be a simple “no”.   Unlike what some think, the fact that Guardians of Time are forbidden to intervene doesn’t mean they just sit in temples praying to Pendulos all day long. While they cannot share any potential knowledge they have about events to come or abuse their powers to alter the flow of time, the Guardians are not required to be passive in regards to the world around them. Many help local clerics out with taking care of wounded and guiding people. Others serve as advisors to local lords, and when the nation they reside in goes to war or the town they live in is under attack they are free to help. But the call of Pendulos will always be their primary objective and time will flow as it must. If a Cleric of Pendulos is fighting a war against another nation and sees visions that the army he’s fighting with will lose the coming battle and that they themselves will die, the Cleric cannot warn or otherwise try to change the flow of what is to come. If that is how the story will go, they have to let it play out.   On very rare occasions the Guardians of time can be found hunting down a disturbance they sensed, a possible threat that they need to stop. Occasionally they ask for help from adventurers or soldiers, but in most instances they will try to take care of things themselves.     Daughter   While Pendulos is rather obscure, his supposed daughter Feyth, Goddess of Fate and Destiny, is far better known and more commonly worshipped. Unlike her father she is rather amicable and willing to help, although the help she provides is often limited and confusing. Clerics and oracles of Feyth often show blurs of images or short visions, or talk about vague prophesies when people ask them questions about their future. Many of them are vague if not impossible to understand.
