Ophinne

Goddess of Beauty

Beauty personified. That is what many consider Ophinne to be. The Goddess of Beauty is the younger sister of the Goddess of Winter and Destruction, Zedona. The 2 sisters are considered to be the most beautiful beings on Ehldaron, both of them can be incredibly destructive, and both of them have a certain unpredictability about their actions. But that is where the similarities end. Unlike Zedona, Ophinne sees much beauty in the world. Not simply in the form of art or specific people however, but in life itself. Love is beautiful. Kindness is beautiful. Pleasure is beautiful. The Good Gods are beautiful. Opposite of that beauty stands ugliness, which often shows in the form of evil, like demons and devils, tyrants and despots, and more. Ophinne simply wants to protect what she considers beautiful, and that which is ugly needs to be destroyed. One problem however is that what Ophinne considers beautiful or ugly can be very arbitrary at best, making it difficult to find consistency in her reasoning.     Beliefs and purpose   Ophinne’s core belief is that the world needs to become as beautiful as possible while simultaneously removing all ugliness from the world. As the Goddess of beauty finds life itself beautiful, and generally cares for the different races on Ehldaron, she is considered a good Deity. This is also why she’s part of Celios’ Caretaker circle, although her arbitrary feelings about what is beautiful and what is ugly, and in turn what she likes and dislikes, often put her at odds with others within the Pantheon that require structure and clear rules, like Lox. Nevertheless Ophinne is one of Celios’ most faithful followers. It is said that wherever Celios is, Ophinne isn’t far behind.   The Goddess of beauty does not have a definition that defines what can be considered beautiful and what can be considered ugly. Even amongst her followers what is what is very often an almost personal sentiment, rather than the opinion of a group. This makes it, even simply amongst the followers of Ophinne herself, very difficult to really get a consistent answer. For some this is the reason why Ophinne is such a great Deity. She’s not a Goddess that tells you what to do and what is good and what is evil, instead she’s a Goddess where everyone has their own opinion and their own thoughts. What some consider beauty, others may consider ugly, and vice versa. Nevertheless, despite the arbitrary nature of the Ophinne’s beliefs, there are a few things set in stone that will always be beautiful or ugly. Most notable is love. This is for Ophinne herself and all followers one of the most beautiful things to exist in this world, and also why Ophinne is often also given the title of Goddess of Love. Kindness and generosity are also always beautiful. On the other hand, inherently evil beings, like demons and devils, are abominations and always considered immensely ugly, and they need to be destroyed.     Followers   The Goddess of Beauty (and in some cases love) is widely worshipped by common people, although rarely as their main Goddess. In many nations Ophinne can be found in general temples where large groups of Deities can be worshipped. People often pray to her when they are in love and when they desire fortune in their relationship, but also when they desire more general beauty in their life.   Priests, Clerics, and Paladins of Ophinne are not uncommon in most nations that widely worship the Good Aligned Gods, most notably Ahdah’s and Celios’ circle of caretakers. These worshippers can be found both at general temples as well as dedicated temples of the Goddess of Beauty. In the case of the latter, these temples embody the aspect of beauty completely. They are often small but wonderfully looking temples, with stunning architecture, many bright colours, and lots of giant tapestries depicting all kinds of beauty. Divine followers of Ophinne are generally people that have naturally good looks (although it is certainly not a requirement), and that take extremely good care of how they look and appear to others. Their robes and or armour are brightly coloured and decorated far more than usual. Additionally, the followers of the Goddess of Beauty commonly wear big capes, equally brightly coloured as the rest of their attire. The worshippers of Ophinne are a far less coherent group than followers of most other Deities, as a lack of consistent rules means many of them simply do their own thing, each trying to bring as much beauty to the world as possible in their own way.
