Nalena

Goddess of Peace

As the Goddess of peace, Nalena is the Deity that wants to see an end to war and conflict on Ehldaron. She is an ideological being that puts peace above everything else, and she will often take a diplomatic role in conflicts hoping to resolve the problems without violence.   Nalena is considered to be the opposite of Icreas, the God of War, and both Deities dislike each other equally much. She often works together with Ryher, the God of Protection, to save innocents caught in a conflict.     Beliefs and purpose   A peaceful world without conflict and war is what Nalena and her followers try to achieve. Of course, that isn’t an easy goal. During the ancient times Ehldaron has known almost nothing but war as the Gods themselves were constantly fighting each other. Only the forced peace by Synia, the Goddess of Justice, managed to keep the world peaceful for a while. However, even during this period conflict was still ever present as the different Deities were trying to subvert one another using other means. Once the Gods were banished from Ehldaron no war as long or as deadly as the First God War has occurred, but war and conflict have of course remained. Both during the ancient times as well as in in the present, Nalena and her followers do everything they can to prevent or stop any war and conflict they encounter. Often serving as independent diplomats, these followers of the peace try to mediate between both sides in the hope of coming to a peaceful resolution. Despite their best efforts however, a lasting peace has proven to be nearly impossible to achieve.   When achieving peace is impossible, either because one or more of the parties involved do not want peace, or the threat comes from something that cannot be negotiated with, Nalena and her followers will do everything they can to save as many innocent people as possible. During the ancient times the followers of Peace often worked together with the followers of Ryher, the God of Protection, to achieve this goal.   While Nalena and Ryher are close allies, the Goddess of Peace’s relationship with most other Gods is far more complicated and difficult. While she works against the evil Deities that crave war, destruction, chaos, or tyranny, she will work equally much against Good Aligned Gods that also want to use conflict and war to achieve their goals. The most notable example of this is Celios, the God of summer and light, who is often considered to be a good aligned Deity but who can be aggressive and hostile as well, resulting in quite some tension between the two Gods.   Despite the fact that Nalena and her followers try to achieve peace and stop conflict, this doesn’t necessarily mean they do not know how to fight or will not defend themselves (or others). While fighting will always be a last resort used only if absolutely necessary, many of the Goddess of Peace’s followers, and the Goddess herself, are capable combatants. However, most of them will focus on a more defensive style on fighting, and will try to find ways to subdue their opponents without killing them or even hurting them too much. Many mages in service of Nalena for example will prefer abjuration magic and enchantments over more destructive variants of magic.     Followers   In the Ancient world, Nalena and her followers never controlled a big region, but together with Ryher and his followers instead held many small regions that were used as havens welcome to anyone as long they did not mean any harm. When both Deities were helping out innocents stuck in wars, these people were brought to these havens where they could build up a new life, guarded and aided by followers of both Deities.   In the current world followers of Nalena can be found in many nations, although their popularity and numbers often depend on how warlike the nation is. The more involved or interested a nation is in war or another form of conflict, the less popular Nalena is. Nations like Ellorwis or the Empire of Evadrin have few supporters of Nalena, although the Goddess is certainly not banned and the occasional temple or cleric is certainly not too rare to encounter. Other nations, like the Principality of Lothlorin, consider Nalena one of their most important Deities, and her followers and temples are very common. Regardless of the nation a person lives in, many commoners consider Nalena a very important Deity, as war and conflict brings little good in their lives.   Priests, Clerics, and Paladins of Nalena can be found in dedicated or even more general temples, where they will try to help the populace as much as they can. These followers of the peace will help people with small tasks, injuries, and sickness, and often serve as local mediators for both small and major conflicts. Many of Nalena’s faithful followers will choose for a life with much more travelling however. Rarely staying in 1 spot for very long, these brave men and women travel from city to city, and nation to nation, to help people and resolve conflicts wherever they can.
