Edros

The Empty Lord

A name that makes even the other Gods shudder, Edros is the God of Apathy, although it is more commonly known as “The Empty Lord”.     Beliefs and purpose   Edros is a being that can only be described as a living void that sucks in the lifeforce and souls of everything around it, including the Gods themselves, and leaves behind nothing but empty husks without soul or purpose.   It is not just that which is around Edros that suffers however. There are those who simply fall too deep into darkness, those who have been so scarred by life by one event or other that they simply start losing the will to live. They stop caring about everything or everyone and slowly become nothing inside. They grow completely apathetic. It seems that once a being falls deeply enough into apathy it is drawn to Edros, and Edros will be drawn to it. While Edros slowly sucks out the poor being’s soul, a dangerous intoxication begins affecting the creature, plunging it deeper into madness while simultaneously also granting it dark powers. The being itself is lost at that point, as once Edros has a grip on someone or something it will not let go of that grip. But what’s even more dangerous is that the madness will start spreading, like an infection it will touch everything and everyone around the infected being. Others too will lose the will to live, and become completely apathetic. They too will be completely absorbed by Edros, and in the end nothing will be left but empty husks.   During ancient times, Edros didn’t have an own region or followers. Instead it simply walked Ehldaron with no other purpose than to absorb every living being around him as if The Empty Lord knows nothing but an unquenchable hunger. This is something that has not changed until this day, as Edros does not seem to have any motives or goals beyond swallowing more life. While many are happy that Edros, like the other Gods, does not roam Ehldaron anymore, The Empty Lord is still out there, somewhere. It is still affecting Ehldaron, drawn to those whose will to live is fading. Ever so often contact with a settlement or village is lost, only to find it later consumed by the Empty Lord with only husks left to remind of the life that once was.   In the ancient times both mortals and Gods of all kinds attempted to fight Edros and somehow destroy this horrifying being, but none of them ever succeeded. The Empty Lord was simply too powerful. Many think that Edros is somehow connected to the Elders, beings far more powerful and alien than most could ever imagine. Stories in ancient times claimed that Edros was once a God of what is now called “The Forgotten Pantheon” that went searching for Eldritch knowledge. The Eldtrich power was simply too dangerous and overwhelming however, and it consumed and transformed the God into the being it is today. Since Edros seems somehow connected with Ehldaron but is far more powerful than most Gods, it is considered to be a Transcendent God.     Followers   There are no real followers of Edros, as he is an all consuming being that only the most insane would ever willingly worship. Of course these insane people do exist, but nothing ever comes of it. Instead most victims of Edros fall for its grasp in slower and far more insidious ways.   However, as one falls under the control of Edros they can gain powerful abilities. Some are drawn to this possibility of power. They start hunting for relics related to Edros, search for people infected by him, or try to become so apathetic themselves so that they can willingly get infected by The Empty Lord. The fools that attempt this are convinced they are mentally strong enough to resist the madness and can keep their soul. Once they have the power they want, they try to break free of Edros’ shackles, but often at this point it is already too late and they have fallen completely. There have been a few occasions where someone was powerful enough to resist complete absorption for a short period, keeping part of their sanity and using Edros’ power for their benefits, but all of them fail at some point.   Obviously, the worshipping of Edros is forbidden even in the most open religious nations and the ones that openly worship evil Gods.
