Government

Lord Edric Haldir holds a strong rule from his hill-top castle and swears fealty to Westreach. Longwater is one of the largest towns in Efria.

The town guard is an extensive operation headed by Sheriff George Lewis.

General Norbert Cowen commands an army of 1,800 trained men when the banners are called.

Defences

The main town is surrounded by a 14' stone wall that guards the core of the town. The Lord's castle sits high atop a hill, with its own 16' wall.

The Longwater rests at a "T" intersection of two main roads. Each of the three roads leading out of the walls has a large guard tower and barracks for the town guard. Each also supports a full-time reserve unit of the army.

Industry & Trade

Longwater has no notable exports, and is mostly self-sufficient. Trade involves general goods and services. When large quantities are needed, it must import stone.

Infrastructure

Longwater is a large, stone-walled town. The town has outgrown its walls, and about half of the settlement spills outside the walls. There are two town centers: one within, and one without, the walls.

Newtown, the one without, sits along the major road and generally contains anything an average traveler would need. The town guard generally only allows citizens to enter the walls, unless a valid reason to enter is given. Newtown sports a tourney field, the fish markets, and river trading industries.

Longwater also possesses a respectable port, which branches off of Newtown outside the town walls.

The Longwater Inn is in Newtown, and in early 1000AE, The Heroes of Efria caused a disturbance. They were tricked by Currier the Courier and ultimately Thoril Dragonblood threatened the innkeep and his daughter and was taken to the dungeons. Using Fale's slick diplomacy skills and a 10gp bribe, Thoril was quietly released by the magistrate.

History

Established in the Fourth Era, Longwater was once the capital of the humans. Its walls have since been rebuilt and there are only a few original buildings remaining.

Natural Resources

Sitting at the outer limit of The Longwater's floodplain, the town sits on great soil and good fishing. It also borders the bountiful The Thickory Forest.
