The firtborn sons of the 250  aristocrathic families hand picked and showered with gifts by Lycurgos to be loyally only personally to him. They are disciplined, resolute,  bold, and fanatically loyal to the Lycurgid name

Structure

The Spartoi elect three commanders from their own midst, whom lead by discussing problems, and compromising to find a common plan of action.

Tactics

The Spartoi are the household Guard of the Tyrannus of Marush, as such they are usually held in reserve.  The day that the Spartoi fight, is a day only the Spartoi could win. When participating in battle, the unit is either the hammer, or the anvil in the  classical manouveur. Either holding against the enemy elite units wile lighter units encircle or flank them, or  disengeage from the main fighting, and  forced march to an unexpected position, then descend on the enemy flanks.

Training

The Spartoi train day-to-day with the Strategoi, princially Pyrrhus, whom amassed notoriety as being most creatively merciless drill sergeant in the civilized world.  The unit is an expert in breaking frontlines, moving quickly while being heavily encoumbered, amphibious assaults, river crossing battles, chokepoint assaults, siege warfare, guerilla fighting etc. Once a month the soldiers are forced to stay awake for 72 hours straight, with the added bonus, if anybody falls asleep, the timer resets. Nevertheless, the Spartoi diefy Pyrhhus, Krateiros, and to a lesser extent, Tyrannus Hephis.

Spartoi equipment is state issued, and the men of the household  guard are provided for "on the palace's grain"

Recruitment

The 250 families only have 1 first born son a piece, thus, any casualty the unit suffers, loses up to 35 years of experience, making the Spartoi the most fragile unit in the Marushite military

History

The Spartoi led the charge on the beachead of what is now Marush, against the Avan warband. Since then, in the 38 years that have passed, they have took up arms time and time again, only to return home without suffering a casualty.

Historical loyalties

The unit was formed as Lycurgos' personal honor guard, and were zealously loyal to him, until his death a few years back. Now, they are honourbound to serve Hephis, nephew of the legendary Tyrannus, but in reality,  would truly rejoice if Lycurgos' grandson, the Strategos Krateiron take the throne, after all, hi is barely 22 years old, and already a splitting image of his granfather.
