Volunteering for twelve years of duty, these indentured servants keep law and order among the denizens of the Polis, mediate local civil disputes, and serve as judge jury and executioner when performing certain tasks. Domestikoi are integral parts of Marushiite existence, and are certainly though of as such, although not loved, they can rely the cooperaton with the city administration, and most if not all law abiding citizens.
As for less savory characters, the Marush armouries provide these slave lawmen with Light maces, or in more dire of times, batons made of oak, as well as a sling or a Toxon, with they are said to be quite proficient.

after twelve years of uninterrupted service, the Domestikos is offered freedom, or the rank of Krateiron Domestikoi (Strongest of the Home-Keepers)

they are supplied with equipment, food and lodgings, as well as a meager salary, and care for their family, if they have any, in exhange for their service, in addition Krateiron Domestikoi have prestigeous and coveted rights, wit hthe small caveat of not having personal freedom.

A child born to a Domestikos is born as a freemen. Some accounts also suggest that they have a strong symbiotic relationship with certain merchant interests and the temples of the Aspects

The spark of the idea for an estabilishment of police force consisting entirely of slaves broke out of Tyrannus Lycurgos one night, while lamenting one too many marketplace brawls. The wise ruler called for every rank of human among the denizens of Marush, and posed them a question
"What can the Tyrannus do, to ensure loyalty, of their faction.
The citizens: replied striking their chests, calling upon their ancestors and the oaths they've sworn.
The freedmen replied: Our loyalty lies with the rightful sovereign of these lands
The Slaves replied: A Chance to prove. The old wily warrior liked the latter answer best, and appointed the slave saying those words, as the first Krateiron Domestikoi.
