Falion

Rolling green plains, winding rivers, fertile farmland, and the Eastern Coast are all the trademarks of Falion, a country taking up a large part of the continent's eastern midlands with one of the most mild climates. One border resting against The Span, and the others against the Winter Wastes to the north and the deserts of Mezirah to the south, its boundaries are heavily guarded and watched. One of the safest kingdoms, primarily inhabited by humans, and ruled by them as well, Falion's rigid and wide-spread military keeps the peace and maintains order, above all else.

Structure

Ruled by a patriarchal monarchy, currently under the watch of a newly crowned, relatively young king.
The king is advised by a council, which includes the Archgeneral (commander in chief of the kingdom's military), the Arch Coinmaster (controller of the kingdom's funds as well as an overseer of trade), Archmage (most skilled or most tenured magic user in the academy, usually runs the school and works with the Archgeneral when it comes to overseeing Warmages), and the Lightspeaker, who is the high priest of the Angel's Vestry, the church.   There are also several families of nobles, and it is not uncommon for each town to have a ruling noble family which governs it, but ultimately reports to the capitol.

Public Agenda

Falion seeks to uphold what they believe justice to be, and to banish what they perceive to be evil. In the last century, they waged a long and bloody war on many of the non-human or magic-using races that dwelt in the country, pushing many of them back to the Span, which they consider a hive of evil creatures that must be defended against, or expelling them. They severed many of their ties with old allies and now are a mostly insular country, wary of outside influences.

Assets

Falion is very rich in resources-- fertile farmland yields a surplus of food in most years, keeping them well fed, and metals and wood are easily found in the western forests and mountains at the base of The Span. Fresh water is easily found in the rivers and lakes, and they have a massive, well trained army that they keep well supplies and stationed in every town. Crownsrest, the capitol, is a well defended and defensible city, resting high on ocean cliffs near a bay, with the central castle comprising a fortress at the heart of the city.

Demography and Population

The population is largely scattered, clustered in towns and villages with large expanses of either open plains or wilderness, or farmland in between. The most densely populated area is the capitol and surrounding coast. The northern areas are the least populated. The population is primarily human, though some other races, like Minotaurs and Hedgefolk, are permitted to reside there, but are largely sequestered into their own population centers or rare in common society.   On average, most people live to old age, and there's a fairly low child mortality rate, but recently, the death rate has been climbing as crops fail and the roads and wilds become more and more dangerous.

Military

Falion's army is one of the largest and most formidable on the continent, professionally trained, widely spread, well supplied, organized, and proud. Military service is seen as an honorable occupation, and the country has a long history of was, all of which it claims were for the purposes of banishing evil or restoring order.

Religion

The Angel of Order (full name TBD) is the official and only patron god of this country, and the only one in recorded memory, with a large temple/cathedral in Crownsrest. The god's primary values of order, light, and firm justice encourage strong laws and rigid rule, and a severe distrust of anything that seems dark, supernatural, or, for the most part....different. Most people in the capital city worship actively, and there are some scattered chantries through the country, but most of the general population is not terribly devout.   Other religions are not taboo but are unusual, and there is a severe prejudice against any sort of demonic entities.

Foreign Relations

Falion does not interact in a formal capacity with most other kingdoms, preferring to keep its own company and ignore them unless they present a threat, though they will trade with them on occasion for rare goods or materials that cannot be obtained within its borders.

Agriculture & Industry

The primary focuses of Falion are on raw materials, focusing mainly on agriculture and mining, letting individual settlements handle their own industry, refining, and manufacturing. There is some pride in the quality of horses in the country, as well as the steel they are able to produce.

Trade & Transport

Most goods are moved over ground, over the infrastructure of roads and highways by cart or wagon. Some trade ot transport up and down the coast is done by sea. Mail is usually carried by horse, or on occasion by flying creature.

Education

Most of the population, except for some isolated farming villages, are mostly educated, at least enough to read and write. Education in the city is excellent, due to is possession of the Library and Arcane Academy.
