Western Attans

Attans

Atta is a country split in two by the winding Tattan River, a country held in balance by two families ruling over the split land, the Western Attans, and the Eastern Attans. Throughout the years of collaborative peace, and the similarity of the two peoples to begin with, the two are almost indistinguishable to outsiders. However, the Attans do have differences that can be noted, though their language and many of their families have melded there are traits they sometimes use to follow lineage. The wider the bridge of your nose, the more likely you are Western. The more quickly your eyes respond to the light, the more likely you are Western. The longer your fingers compared to the width of your palm, the more likely you are Western. And while these traits have been agreed to be merely aesthetic, the people have always liked to trace their lineage to one side of the river or the other.

Western Attans

The biggest differences between the Western and Eastern Attans, however, are their exports. Where Eastern Attans have always been good at forming magnificent shapes from stone, trinkets and toys and homes and tools, the Western Attans have always been coveted for their textiles. With different techniques passed down through different families, the Western Attans are considered to have perfected cloth. The most notable textile is their river cloth, a type of cloth woven using the river itself. The technique is considered very confidential and the families who use it are selective about their employees, their marriage partners, and their trade partners, careful never to let the secret out. River cloth, by nature, is one of the most expensive and highly sought after textiles on the continent.
