GoSR-Session 8: Into the Dark
As the party got their berings after the shaky lift ride into the bowels of the earth, they found themselves at the bottom of a vast shadowed well. All around the walls were solemn statues. Their figurs depicting various elven and Dragonfolk figures.
Curiouse about the odd stone BowoBow bnoticed in the wall of the well above, molly climbed up their rope to inspect the oddity. Placing her hand ion it she heard keledecks voic echoing into her head, requesting a password. When Molly was unable to give one the voice shoputed out in her mind curses and hateful words. Reling from the mental assault molly quickly descended the rope.
Nest the party turned to inspect the chamber. At the center of the room stood a noteable, faceless statue. It held aloft a bowl of dim blue flames and upons it's base was inscribed a phrase that they found a translation for. "May this light never wain. For it is the breath of holy Sheno, and only it may reveal the rewards of our devotion. Hold it high and never waver on your path." This statue also faced towards another statue that was pushed out further towards the cebnter of the room, behind it a stoon an open tunnel with flickering torchlight beyond.
Intrigued by the strange blue flames, Grey raised a torch and found they spread easily. Invetigating, they crossed to another statue, and brought the blue flames up to light the vessel it carried. With a grinding of stone the central statue shifted to face them, and this newly lit figure rumbled forward. Behin it was revealed a small alcoov with a distict leathery garment hanging silently. Wary at first of traps they eventually took down the garment, and Grey put it on. He found it to be cool to the touch and with a comfortable weight.
Moving to the next statue they once again raised the blue flames. The figure of a dragonkin in funerary regalia rumbled aside as they lit the stone lantern raised in it's fist. The revealed tunnel was pitch black and smelled of moldering earth, but they steeled themselves and began their descent into the dark.
After some time scrapping down the long staircase they foudn themselves in a set of cobweb choaked chambers. Their hired cleric Valignis translated the inscription upon a large dragonkin monument in the first room, letting them knwo that they were headed into the catacombs of this long abandonded temple. With torch and blade they made their way through the clinging webs, which only grew thicker by the as they went. Coming to a four way intersetion, they rellied on Silver and some well tossed glowweed pods to scout ahead. To their left was a chamber completly filled with webbing, and as silver got closer he spotted a massive spider waiting in ambush just in time. The party made a guess that it might be a phase spider and that their were probably more in that direction, and decided that it was best avoided. Scouting ahead Silver found a simple burial chamber, the sarcofogus displayed prominently and coverd in mementos. Uninterested in that route, the party decided to head right, since the webbing seemed thinest in that direction. Procedding carefully, they made sure to scare off the lurking spider that seemed to think about stalking them before scurying off.
They moved slowly down a long hallway ending in a small burial site before turning sharply left. Here they noticed distict signs of looting, the old bones and coffins broken and scatterd across the floor. Also noting a faint trail in the dust leading back they way they had come that implied something had been dragged across the floor. Around the corner ahead they heard the soft sound of shuffling feet.
Readying themsleves for battle they silently took position and threw a glowweed pod into the large chamber. A huge corridor with many burial nooks lining it's walls was partially revealed, and shambling towards them they spotted numerous undead. With a cry of battle, Valignis took point to guard they doorway and soon the zombies charged at them in a stumbling and spitting horde.
Bowbow granted Valignis a spell of Enlarge, so the lizardfolk Cleric easily blocked the doorway from any flanking attempts. Grey and Molly fired off with arrow and bolt. Oceanus summoned a tentacled spirit of the deeps to smash and strangle the dead things. They held strong, but Valignis was almost forced back when a vile dragonborn undead burst forth with a great spray of acidic bile. Silver flew in and acted as a distraction to draw the mindless things off for a moment, and with their enemies divided the party made shirt work of the remaining undead.
Searching the large room they found a small wealth oif treasures, including an odd bag of sneeze inducing powder.
As they proceeded forward they turn another corner and came to a narrow hallway leading towards some source of faint green light, and in the silence thay thought they could hear the lilting of a fair voice in song.
