- Mating: Males defend a small territory by displaying their spines. When two males confront the same spot and don't back down, they fight using their spines, lowering their head and neck to expose them. The victor keeps the territory.
- Nesting: When close to laying, the female carves a mound with the form of a crater by digging the soil. She deposits the eggs on the center and waits around 70 days for them to hatch.
- Caring: Parents care for their young until subadulthood.
