Session 2: The Black House Report

General Summary

As the room grew cold a spectral figure appeared in the room. It appeared like a young woman standing over a crib, rocking it gently. Even though it didn't appear to be hostile, Mia took no risk and backed away, leaving Orobir, Tybalt and Jean-Martin to deal with the woman. When they approached to look into the crib, the woman turned to face them. Her face was torn, her flesh hanging off the bones by the sinews, revealing hollow eyes and a barebone nose. With a rattling voice she croaked: "Don't disturb the baby!" before pointing at the crib. As the looked inside they saw a bundle of cloth. Trying to look closer they rousled the cloth to reveal: nothing, the crib was empty.
In an instant the spirit flew into a rage, lashing out at the heroes and wailing about her baby. She battered with the three men but did not seem to harm them. When Mia hid underneath the dusty, decrepit bed the ghost pursued her and the men heared a shrill shriek and then nothing. When Tybalt flipped the bed aside Mia was laying on the floor, looking a shade paler than before but otherwise lively. The ghost was still in the air, parallel to Mia and harassing her. With their combined efforts they slowly but surely dispatched off the hostile entity and took a moment to lick their wounds.
Tybalt pointed out the staircase he had found and the group sneaked their way up towards the attic of the house. Covered in cobwebs and more than a little dusty they found a few rooms and decided to check the ones above the room where Walter was supposed to be. The small room - which seemed to be a spare bedroom - they glanced over and quickly ignored, moving on to the large storage room. In there stood several pieces of furniture, covered in white dusty sheets. Jean-Martin's eye fell on a large trunk, which was not covered in sheets. For a few moments they debated wether not to open it, untill Tybalt couldn't restrain himself and kicked the suitcase open. In there they found bloody sheets and the remains of some skeleton, a man or a woman most likely. They braced themselves for another specter to assault them but nothing seemed to happen...
Unsure about what to make of the skeleton they decided to confront the children - Rose and Thorn, who where waiting outside. The four travellers headed downstairs but when they opened the front door they could see only a thick, creeping fog. One of the men stepped out to try and find the children. After a merely 5 paces he was a shade in the mist and after 5 more the others couldn't see him anymore. Holding on to a rope, their only lifeline it suddenly went slack. Fearing the worst suddenly their friend returned, empty-handed and visiably winded by his short time out in the mist.
Noticing the fatigue, they decided to spend their time to further inspect the lower levels of the house. From the main hall they found the kitchen, parlor and dining room. The dining table was set with trays and platters of steaming hot food and bottles of deep red wine. Dinner had been served but there was no one to sup it. In the parlor Tybalt and Orobir were slighly suspicious of the three taxidermied wolves standing in the corners of the room. Orobir was sure he had seen one move in the corner of his eye. While Orobir was checking the hunting throphies, Tybalt inspected the kabinets, for one held an impressive collection of crossbows. "Those might come in handy", he surmised as he took what he needed.
Jean-Martin harboured doubts concerning the abundance of available food and Mia agreed something was amiss. They begain casting divining magic that would let them detect any pressence of magic or poison. Shortly after they cast their spells, the dining room lit up like a christmas tree: all the food was magically altered and surely not edible at all. Even the food in the kitchen pantry was spoiled far past it's keeping date. Now that the illusion had dropped they noticed the rancid smell in the kitchen and strange stains in the floor of food turned to liquid.
Moving on they went to check the next floor of the building and what they found there would prove to be very interesting indeed...
