Echidna

The world of Echidna is a science-fantasy setting filled with elements of mystery, mythology, and spirituality. In short, Echidna is a place where Elemental, Fey, and Psionic energy (collectively known as Kundalinic Energy) infuses the physical landscape and greatly influences society and industry. Echidna calls upon one’s ability to balance the esoteric forces of discipline and harmony as well as discover one’s role in life and the progressive path they choose to follow.   A cataclysmic event has turned the world of Echidna into a hostile land where survival is the top priority. Now, corrupted forms of nature have retaken dominance of the planet physically, mentally, and spiritually. The Human race has dwindled to a near unrecoverable percentage but in their place two new races have emerged: The Neosapians, a race of chimeric humanoids known for their elemental magic and the Yakshini, a mysterious race of Fey composed completely of hermaphroditic, wood skinned humanoids known only to have "deep roots" with the Planet.   As a world of extremes, Echidna is ripe with unrelenting dangers such as precarious terrain, cunning predators, and natural disasters on a massive scale. All these things present a constant challenge to the planets inhabitants, as do the unpredictable ripples of change that wash through the plane. Echidna is also littered with ancient sites filled with stories waiting to be discovered. Thanks to the abundance of magic and its effects on the environment, the world possesses great beauty as well as terrible darkness.   Due to the current state of affairs, there is a high degree of competition among these races for power, prestige, and a higher status of living. War is on the horizon as resources become ever more difficult to transport and people begin to lose themselves to corruption of various kinds. An arms race for Astra-Tech devices threatens to shake the balance. What could have started all this in the first place? Why are the creatures so hostile towards Humans, Neosapians, and the Yakshini? What is causing corruption to spread across the world at such a rapid pace?
