Boromar

The Boromar Clan is a halfling family that is the most powerful criminal organization in Sharn. Originally a family of immigrants from the Talenta Plains, the Boromar Clan has built up a network of extortion, blackmail, corruption, smuggling, and gambling halls that run from Lower Dura to the Skyway. The current Boromar patriarch is Saidan Boromar, a member of the Gold Concord of the Aurum. Besides their illicit dealings, the Clan also has a number of legitimate business ventures and good social standing. Saidan Boromar's wife is a member of House Jorasco, his daughter Ilyra Boromar is a member of the Sharn Council, and the Boromar family belongs to the Sixty, a prestigious group of powerful Sharn families.   The Boromar Clan's dominance of illicit dealings has been disrupted in the past two years by the criminal organization Daask, which has been raiding Boromar holdings and muscling in on activities normally monopolized by the Boromars

CULTURE

The Boromar Clan employs people of all races, but the inner circle of the organization is comprised of halflings: 108 in all, including 32 members of the actual Boromar family.   Most of the 260 core members of the Boromar Clan are bookkeepers, administrators, or thieves. The Clan maintains a force of burglars and cutpurses, but it specializes in intimidation, deception, smuggling, and similar trades. Boromar experts are more likely to have Charisma-based skills than Stealth or Sleight of Hand.   Halak commands the Clawfoots, the family’s personal guard; there are 15 Clawfoot warriors, all of whom are hobbit Barbarian 1/Rogue 1 characters.   When it comes to physical violence, Saidan usually hires members of the Sharn Guard or employs the services of House Tarkanan. The Clawfoots are called in on rare occasions, but primarily defend the Boromar holdings in Little Plains.   Mala Boromar d'Jorasco is an unmarked heir of House Jorasco, and her marriage to Saidan has formed important ties between the crime lord and the healers of Sharn.   Jorasco healers help Boromar halflings free of charge, with the expectation that the clan will reimburse them for their efforts; this emergency assistance has saved the lives of many Boromars ambushed and left for dead by Daask brigands.

Culture

The core membership of the Boromar Clan comprising about one in six of its members n extended family of halflings descended from immigrants who came to Sharn from the Talenta Plains. Another third of the members are unrelated halflings, and the rest belong to other species. The syndicate employs a wide variety of bookkeepers and administrators as well as burglars, con artists, smugglers, and other criminals. When a situation calls for physical violence, the Boromars usually hire freelancers—members of the Sharn Guard or agents of House Tarkanan. The Boromar family proper has a team of personal bodyguards called the Clawfoots, who are mostly fierce halfling warriors recently relocated from the Talenta Plains. They primarily defend Boromar holdings and headquarters in the halfling district of Little Plains.
