The Devourer

The Devourer, originally named Shargon, is the Sovereign of Whelm and Wave. He is the tsunami that overwhelms and the wildfire that consumes. He is the terrifying, primordial power of nature, the storm that sinks ships and the earthquake that demolishes a castle. He is also the glorious violence of the predator, the cry of the raptor and the howl of the wolf. The Devourer is all that is wild, and unknowable, the deepest ocean, and the densest jungle. The Devourer is a force that can be crossed, but never controlled.   The Pyrinean Creed paints the Devourer as a purely destructive force. Arawai and Balinor represent nature and the power of civilisation in harnessing the natural world, but the Devourer is the proof that this is a lie, nature can never be truly tamed.   The Cazhaak Creed embraces the Devourer and accept that nature is often bloody and cruel, but that whilst it is harsh, nature is rarely evil.   The Devourer is the brother of Arawai and Balinor, and in some myths he is also the father of The Fury. He is often portrayed as a human or merfolk with seaweed in his hair and beard, a sahuagin, an enormous shark, or rarely as a dragon turtle.
