Crying Fields

The Crying Fields lie to the east of Ghalt in Aundair. The region was the site of five large scale battles between Aundair and Thrane, as the Thranish soldiers attempted to circumvent both Tower Valiant and Tower Vigilant.   The war magic used during the war seems to have had a lasting effect on the region, and the land seems to be cursed or haunted. The grass that grows there is bloody red, and the sounds of some phantom battle can be heard coming out of the fog. It is quiet during the day, but still audible, and gets louder at night. The sounds are loudest during the night of the month's dominant full moon.   On these nights, it is said that the bodies of the slain soldiers rise again, and that trenches, walls and other fortifications magically appear in the fields, though they are jumbled by the overlapping memories of all of the battles. The region is shunned by the superstitious people of Aundair.   Subverting expectations, the region is not named for the tragedies that occurred there, but instead for an odd weather pattern in the region. When the wind is right, it creates a sound like anguished crying. Whether this is a natural phenomenon is unclear.
