On the Town (the town being Thaliost)

General Summary

The adventurers reached the shop of Anaxi Zephries (the Cartophile) to report the findings of their mission and collect their reward. They arrived late in the evening of Zarantyr 11, celebrated for a bit, and slept as the guests of the Cartophile for the evening. When they awoke, their erstwhile companion Arkris Levistusson had absconded with the cards from the Deck of Several Things, including Velhiri's throne card. Castamir and Dofi also lost their cards. It was concluded that he likely went straight for the monastery after obtaining the card for its leadership.

The party set out for Thaliost, with Anaxi joining them and explaining the history of the town, points of interest, and tasks to be accomplished that day. They began by heading to the House Sivis Chapterhouse to obtain the legal documentation promised so that the party could move about the Five Kingdoms without issue. From there, they went to the local House Kundarak bank to arrange for the transfer of funds, as promised. The party (under the name of Agglomeraton's Special Squadron of Crusaders [A.S.S. Crusaders]) opened an account with 20 pp to have available in the banking system. The other 80 pp went into the party inventory.

From there, the Crusaders gathered up at the Harp and Flagon just south of the Crossroads District to eat lunch and have a drink. They met a number of interesting patrons there. Two agents of House Tharashk, Brill and Merrick, chatted with Garrett and opened Dofi's eyes to the existence of the Golden Crow (the local thieves' guild). The party also met a ranger named Alethra Kessler. She bore the Mark of the Sentinel, and indulged the party's questions about the dragonmarks. She has spent most of her life in the Feywild, only now returning to Khorvaire to be a protector of the Silver Wood, north of Thaliost. She comes into town occasionally for supplies.

At the Cartophile's urging, they then made their way to meet a friend of his known as Blackfingers. An alchemist and inventor, Taren Torralyn d'Sivis (otherwise known as Blackfingers), is an exile of Zilargo who runs a shop of magical items and his own inventions near the docks. When the party arrived, they discovered a notice on the door that, on the order of the archbishop, Blackfingers had been arrested for "disturbing the peace." The Cartophile argued vehemently against the charge, and they paid a visit to the jail to speak to him in person and try to understand what happened.

Agglomeraton's rank of Sacrosanct in the Thranish army allowed them easy access to the prisoner, and they became convinced of his innocence. The Golden Crow was identified as a group that might help the party to extricate Blackfingers before his execution, set for no sooner than Zarantyr 15, when the archbishop returns to the city. Upon leaving the prison, Agglomeraton headed to the Temple of the Silver Flame to pray, Dofi polymorphed into a bat to fly to the Wanton Witch (headquarters of the Golden Crow), and the rest of the party set off on foot through the Tarnish to meet at the Wanton Witch.

After receiving guidance from the voice of the Silver Flame, Agglomeraton rejoined the party. Dofi, having made the acquaintance of both the barkeep, the halfling Harim Galbuck, and a patron of the bar and member of the Golden Crow, the lovely human Kala, waited for the rest of the party before accepting a job clearing the HQ of the Golden Crow of some accidentally released bodaks. After defeating some black puddings, a common threat in the sewers of Thaliost, the party discovered the true threat. The Golden Crow had inadvertently dug into a subterranean shrine to the Keeper, and three tortured souls sacrificed in the name of the Keeper were dispatched by the party in a highly effective battle, again successfully utilizing banishment to control their foes.
