Sapiokin-Apekin Conflict

Military action

2170PrM
2163PrM

A series of attacks between the Sapiokin and Apekin tribes. Resulted in the mass exodus of the Apekin and the subsequent founding of the Isle of Vael, the burning of Lamuran city Oakheel by Sapiokin, and their sudden defeat from the combined efforts of Lamuran and Apekin forces.

The Sapiokin-Apekin conflict was a series of battles fought between various Sapiokin and Apekin tribes, lasting from -2170 PrM to -2163 PrM.

Historical Background

The exact cause of the conflict is unclear, but it is commonly believed that poor availability of food drove tribes to resort to raiding. As Sapiokin tribes continued to expand and their need for resources increased, tribal leaders were forced to turn to more violent methods. The nearby Apekin tribes possessed sufficient amounts of supplies, and attacks on their settlements grew increasingly common during the later half of -2170 PrM.

Apekin tribes were easily devastated as the Sapiokin attacked, and retaliations proved exceedingly difficult due to the disparity in populations. The remaining Apekin were given no choice but to flee to the nearby forests, in hopes of the dense woodlands preventing the Sapiokin from following. This event marks the first record of Lamuran civilizations interacting with outside society.

Lamuran Interference

As the Apekin continued their escape into the forests, the Lamuran city of Oakheel was faced with the growing problem of refugees. As dictated by their code of secrecy, Lamuran society refused to aid the displaced Apekin. However, a rare exception was made, as the forest boundary proved useless against the Sapiokin's use of fire. Forging a momentary alliance with the Apekin, the army managed to successfully fight back the advancing forces. By the beginning of -2163 PrM, the remaining Apekin tribes traveled through the northern reaches of Oakheel before discovering what is now the modern-day Isle of Vael.

Efforts immediately went underway to cross the sea and reach the Isle of Vael. Finally, by the end of -2163 PrM, the Apekin tribes had escaped the mainland, and their exodus to the nearby islands had gone underway, completing in -2162 PrM.
