Grandmother Sansmark

Grandmother Marie Sansmark

She slayed that dragon herself, didn't you know?   Visitors to the Thirsty Goat all know of Grandmother Sansmark. Her memory comes and goes, fluctuating between long tales of hunting dragons in the Mountains of Copper and wondering when her evening porridge will be delivered. Her good cheer and talkative nature makes her a favorite for many passing through or who are old time visitors. Grandmother Sansmark seems obliged to go along with any idea as long as it has general cheer, a fact which can be painful for the Sansmark family trying to extend the life of an elderly relative.   As a young woman, she was known as Marie. She spent most of her years in Murghyr at first serving in the Murghôm military as a Fighter. Desire to return home, and a lull in the conflict between Murghôm and Sephram, led her to apply her skill with the spear instead to slaying the dragons of the Mountains of Copper who ventured too close to Spiderhaunt. She was no stranger to her own exploits, boasting her stories every time she came home with singed hair and a haul of dragon hide to sell to the dwarves.   She never married or had any discernable lovers, though she did have Ava Sansmark in her mid-twenties. Even when watching a child left her homebound, she kept up her spearwork and was known to balance Ava in one arm while practicing thrusts with the other. Even as she aged, the tavern was never more than a place to drink and Marie would often leave (with or without) her only daughter Ava to travel to Murghyr.
