Mage Doll

A Magic golem that has been awakened. A true blank slate, this creature has almost no knowledge of the world. Mage dolls do not typically awaken by themselves, but every once in awhile one does achieve sentience by it's own accord. These awakened mages are often hunted by their creators, but the few that do escape often surround themselves with entire communities willing to protect them, due to their penchant for wanting to feel useful and their ability to learn new abilities. The few that hold resentment for their creature/servitude/existence can become real threats to entire cities.

 

Racial Abilities


 

Made of Cloth

Due to your body being made of sturdy cloth (and lack of organs/bones) you gain the following effects:
  • You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
  • You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You have resistance to Force and Cold damage
  • You are immune to disease.
  • You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

 

Golem's Vigil

When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.

You can speak, read, and write Common and one additional language of choice.
 

Variants

There are 4 variants of Mage Dolls, codenamed 'Black', 'White', 'Red', and 'Green' .

 

Black Magic Doll

The Black Magic Dolls are identified by their long robes with collars that cover their faces, not that they have a real face to speak of. Their face consists of glowing oval-shaped eyes and nothing else. They tend to have hoods or hats covering their heads. This variant tends towards offensive magic and was created to serve as magic-slinging cannon fodder. Awakened Black Magic Dolls tend to seek knowledge. They like knowing as much as possible and feel proud when they can answer questions for others.

Ability Score Increase

+2 Intelligence, +1 Wisdom
 

Residual Imprinting

You gain proficiency in one of the following skills: Perception, Arcana, or Stealth. In addition you gain proficiency in one tool of your choice.
 

Made for Magic

You know the ray of frost cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the magic missle spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the ray of enfeeblement spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Casting these spells with this trait doesn’t require material components. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
 

Dangerous Casting

Your entire being is powered by magic. As such, you can draw from your own life force to restore your spell slots. Once per short or long rest, as a bonus action, you can convert your life energy into magic, restoring your spell slots (or the uses of your Made for Magic spells). The exchange rate is 5 HP per spell slot level.
 

Additional Language

You can speak, read, and write one additional language of choice.
 

White Magic Doll

The white magic dolls were originally created to both heal and soothe. They tend to look like androginous humans, wearing white robes, often with hoods. From a distance, they can be hard to distinguish from a human, though up close it does become obvious. Their appearance was meant to be relaxing, while they used their abilities to help and heal the injured. Awakened White Magic Dolls tend to seek out churches and places where they can help as many people as possible. Tending toward altruism more than any of the other variants.

Ability Score Increase

+2 Wisdom, +1 Charisma
 

Higher Learning

You gain proficiency in two of the following skills: Arcana, History, Religion, Animal Handling or Medicine.
 

Healing Hands

You inately know the spare the dying cantrip.
 

Made for Healing

When you restore the HP of a creature through any means that requires a roll, you may roll a d4 and add it to the amount healed. You may do this a number of times equal to your proficiency per long rest.
 

Additional Languages

You can speak, read, and write two additional languages of choice.
 

Red Magic Doll

A melee combat oriented doll that was meant to serve as foot soldiers. They move quickly, striking down enemies with percesion. They wear red, lightly armored robes with matching hats. They tend to have white or black hair, and their eyes match their hair color, though they have a soft yellow glow. Awakened Red Magic Dolls are often soft-spoken and do not like raising their voices. They tend to be calm and calculating, but often brutal to their enemies.

+2 Dexterity, +1 Strength
 

Martial Knowledge

You gain proficiency in one of the following skills: Athletics, Acrobatics, or Stealth. You also gain proficiency in one tool of your choice. In addition, you gain proficiency in a martial weapon of your choice as well as light armor.
 

Light-footed

Your base walking speed increases to 35 feet.
 

Made for Combat

Once per short rest, you may give yourself advantage on one weapon attack.
 
 

Additional Language

You can speak, read, and write one additional language of choice.
 

Green Magic Doll

The newest model of magic dolls, created to serve as guardians and 'walls' for the ranged attackers. They wear green, lightly armored robes and carry shields. They resemble the Black Magic Dolls in the face, but exclusively wear hoods and are significantly larger than the other variants. The awakened Green Magic Dolls are often proud of their strength and often search for contests of strength to participate in.

+2 Constitution, +1 Strength
 

Defender Training

You gain proficiency in shields as well as light and medium armor.
 

Guardian Sight

You have advantage on Perception checks involving sight.
 

Made for Protection

If an ally you can see within 5ft of you is targeted by a single target attack of any sort, you may use your reaction to move into their space, moving them into a space within 5ft, and take the attack in their stead (using the same attack roll). You may do this once per short rest.

Basic Information

Anatomy

All magic dolls have a similar construction. Made from a heavy-duty cloth and powered by magic. This magic usually stems from a crystal serving as the 'heart' of the doll.The crystal also acts as a brain and central nervous system, storing memories and facilitating the interpretation of the doll's senses.. In rare cases, dolls have allegedly had their hearts implanted in new bodies, but no official cases exist.

Genetics and Reproduction

Due to not being an organic being, Magic Dolls cannot reproduce nor have gentalia...usually.

Growth Rate & Stages

Unless awakened by another being, the Magic Dolls that awaken on their own tend to do so between 1-2 years of creation. Most compare the experience to organic being's waking up from sleep. They know their designation and their innate abilities. They can also recognize people they have been around from before 'waking up', but other than that, they're akin to young children for the first week or two.

Ecology and Habitats

Due to the immense trade network that the Magic Dolls have become a part of, they can be found just about anywhere.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The few Magic Dolls that awaken on their own are hunted down and destroyed. The non-awakened Dolls serve in all manner of positions, though are often used in place of real bodies in combat. Often held by those with more money than morals.

Facial characteristics

Black
Their faces are black cloth with glowing ovals for eyes.  
White
Have soft, human-like features.  
Red
Human-like features and often (relatively) attractive.  
Green
Similar to the Black Variants, though their eyes seem more expressive.

Average Intelligence

Black
The most intelligent (on average) of all the variants. They are curious and are often found around places of learning.  
White
Tend to be of average intelligence on general subjects, but often specialize in certain skills and communication.  
Red
They often see themselves as the smartest beings around, though they usually have slightly above average intelligence.  
Green
The definition of 'average' intelligence. While not ignorant, they don't tend to move in circles that value intelligence over strength.

Black
Tend to have small frames and limbs, almost like a sickly human.  
White
Similar size to the black variant, but almost resemble young adult humans.  
Red
Tend to have lean, but sturdy builds.  
Green
Often bulky and large physiques.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Black
Wear black or blue robes with collars that cover their faces and heads. Often have hats or hoods to cover the rest of their heads. The hoods/hats cannot be removed (sewed to their head).  
White
Wear white robes with hoods, though leave their faces uncovered.  
Red
Wear lightly armored red robes, often with hats.  
Green
Wear lightly armored green robes, and rarely take their hoods down.
