The Confessari

They were alone. A single figure breaking away from the front to meet the van a hundred strong. It was quick and bloody work.
The Confessari are the superhuman special forces under the direct command of Saresis. They are carefully cultivated and trained Ascendants that have been personally chosen by Saresis for the sole purpose of acting as his main projection force. When a Confessari is seen it is never a coincidence; Saresis wants that Confessari at that location for a very specific purpose only known to him and the Confessari. The Confessari have been known to run the whole gamut of tasks. Force projection, assassinations, shock and awe, covert ops, sabotage, and so on. If there is a task that requires success at all costs in Saresis' eyes, a Confessari will be there.
The Confessari are not uniform in their ability or capacity. There are no two Confessari with similar abilities leading to a military unit that can fill many highly specialized roles and niches. There also has been no observed hierarchy within the unit. All orders are passed down from Saresis himself and come with the stipulation that there are no stipulations. Whatever laws or treaties that must be shattered for Saresis to get what he wants, the Confessari are given full and unmitigated tacit permission to act in any way they see fit. It is for this reason that some of the greatest loss of civilian life in the Great Unification was caused with the appearance of a Confessari.
While their strength is legendary, Confessari are not immortal. Groups of Ascendants have occasionally been known to get lucky and either force a retreat or even slay a Confessari. But such events are exceedingly rare with only three Confessari to be confirmed KIA.
If you ever have an encounter with a Confessari, there is one piece of advice which you should probably heed: run.
