EARTH (ENKI)

The Earth of Enki is not unlike other Earths. In fact, Enki's Earth is near enough to, say, your Earth that the ancient Sumerian diety Enki was worshiped on both, and on one lends its name to the dimensional realm within which that Earth exists.   The realm of Enki is one of eight Dimensional Relics, eight realms that were once one. After the Dark Ages of the universe's formation, when the earliest generation of stars and their supernovae seeded the universe with its elements, the nine components of Impetus, the Cosmic Willpower, separate and vying for dominance, began to compete for greater presence within the young universe. As stars began to increase their longevity, these nine components began to "inhabit" the "souls" of stars, seep into dark matter, and distort spacetime lawlessly. Without an ability to rejoin into Impetus, the war between the nine metaphysical forces rent the single realm into eight reflections, Relics, each dominated by a single rudimentary component of the Cosmic Willpower.   In the fashion of planetary naming conventions, scholars have named each of the eight Relics after mythological dieties, in this case those of ancient Sumeria. Abzu is the Relic of Mist, cold and static. Nergal is the Relic of Fax, chaotic and writhing. Enlil is the Relic of Amata, bright and lifeless. Ninurta is the Relic of Ferus, untamed but structured. Enzu is the Relic of Thaum, reasonable, magical, and motivating. Inanna is the Relic of Ardor, inspiring and unifying. Nabu is the Relic of Taxis, ordered, pragmatic, and forlorn. And, at the proverbial center of all the reflections rests Enki, the Relic of Numen, mundane, grounded, clear, and mindful. A Relic dominated by the spirit of vitality and physical presence.   Enki is one of eight realms in one moment. Each Relic is coterminous and mutually possessed by the others. The Earth of Enki is influenced by the interplay between these nine Relics and the components of the Cosmic Willpower by which they are dominated. The indistinct existence of magic is but one of the myriad phenomena caused by the unique history and anatomy of this Earth and its cosmology. Countless antitelluric spirits, unusual denizens of foreign Relics, interact with the central Relic in bids to explore it, protect it, control it, or destroy it.
