Danu

Danu is an ancient mythological Goddess. She and her twin sister Anu are said to have created the Isles known as Anon and Danon. Which are named after them. They are the two key characters in the creation myth.   Many thousands of years ago it is said that Danu and her sister Anu came from the land of the gods that lies far beyond the great sea of the North. They wanted to create a place they could call their own far away from the squabbles of the other gods. They traveled for years and years and searched far and wide until finding the perfect place to settle. From under the sea they pulled up the land and created one singular Island. They together created the mountains, rivers and all the natural formations of the land. They filled it with grasses and trees and all kinds of creatures. After all their hard work they were resting one day and decided what they had done was too beautiful not to be seen by conscious eyes. So they decided to have children, but both vowed only to make mortal children as not to bare the suffering of immortality on any of their creations.   They went searching for a man to procreate with. They searched the whole world and traveled for 100's of years to find the most perfect man to father their children. They eventually found a man from a far away land when he was out fishing on his boat alone. His name was Braith. The sisters brought him back to the lands they had created. Both Anu and Danu bedded Braith and each had 40 children by him. These people would go on to populate the lands.   After the death of Braith, Anu was devastated. So much so that she wanted to have more children, but children who wouldn't get old and die. Danu disagreed with her and wanted to stick to their vow to only have mortal children. Anu ignored her sisters wishes and in secret preformed a ritual to make immortal children on her own. Breaking the vow. The immortal beings she created were known as Finnan's. They were identical to humans in shape but some could have mythical powers that humans could not possess. Danu was so enraged by her sisters betrayal that she performed a ritual of her own and created a similar species to the Finnan's known as Turuc's. Turuc's were also shaped like humans and could harness powers not usually given to mortal creatures. Unlike the Finnan's they were not immortal but did have a much longer life span than a human (several 100's of years). Danu gave the Turuc's one mission and that was to destroy the Finnan's. The first great war commenced and reigned for many years. After many casualties on both sides the king of the Turuc's was killed and the Finnan's were crowned victors. The king of the Finnan's, king Thala was declared ruler of all the land and of the humans and the remaining Turuc's.   Danu was so tired and defeated after all the events that had transpired that she decided to use all strength she had left to break the land into two. This is why Anon and Danon are two separate Islands today. She took her human descendants and as many as her remaining Turuc's as she could and put them on the Southern Isle of Danon.   It is then said that she retired into the land itself never to form into a physical body again. After seeing her Finnan's in control of the land now know as Anon, Anu is said to have done the same and retire into the land.
