Earth 741 Dawn of Shadows

Earth 741 Dawn of Shadows is a heavy Sci-fi/ Fantasty world setting run on the FATE Core mechanics The earth has suffered several major events over the last 700 or so ears. Resource scarcity, global warming, and The Event- which was a semi-doomsday scenario taking place in upper-South America. The Event rocked the international community, collapsed the South American economy and blew a sizable hole in the continent itself. (map attached) While the world tried to pick up the pieces, they also started to investigate WHAT COULD EVEN DO THIS. Which lead to the eventual discovery of the Shadows. Beings of unknown origin, and great- but fickle- power. The working theory is a bit fuzzy around the details, and there weren't exactly any witnesses to question, but it is hypothesized that The Event was the first known interaction, or bonding of a human and one of the Shadows. Immediately, communities across the globe banded together to fortify against what ,they perceived, was an upcoming thread... except no mass invasion or apocalypse ever happened.   I mean sure, peoples natural curiosity meant that there was experimentation with these Shadows... and there were even several large accidents, or attacks by Bonded individuals... but the Shadows themselves never seems to rally to a cause or have any real objective at all.   So eventually corporations took over a lot of the bureaucracy, as they always do. And the laws loosened a bit, though it is still VERY frowned upon to have any dealings with the Shadow world.   The Earth has gotten complacent about it's "new" guests. We have even explored the reaches of our solar system, all on the heels of Shadow paranoia. Scientists are even saying that we might see FTL travel in this generation!   But who knows. For the most part the world turns on as it has since the Event...   Everyone's just trying to make a living, am I right?
